Wearing a gorgeous L'Wren Scott dress, Mad Men actress Christina Hendricks showed off her glowing skin and new, slimmer figure at this year's Emmy Awards. Hendricks, who plays the curvy secretary Joan Holloway on the popular series, is said to be dieting for her upcoming nuptials to Geoffrey Arrend.

At an Emmy afterparty, costar January Jones commented that she hopes Hendricks holds onto her signature curves. I think most of you will agree that Hendricks looks amazing as is, but getting in shape before the big day is almost a rite of passage for new brides.
Jones won't have to worry though — Hendricks recently told Self that she is more than content with the way she looks: "My healthiest habit is keeping positive about my body at whatever stage it is — being confident and celebrating who I am at the moment."
To learn how she's tweaking her diet and exercise program, just read more.
The actress went on to describe her diet and says she makes food choices based on seasonality, sticking to high-energy proteins and setting limits on her carb intake. As for her fitness regimen, she and her fiancé meet with a trainer three times a week for a strength and cardio workout: "It's amazing how quick an hour can go by when you work out with someone you love."
I love the approach Hendricks is taking towards her health — it's balanced and, most important, she seems really happy. What do you think: are you worried like Jones that she'll lose her curvy figure?

Those are way too big anyway. She looks good the way she is, but honestly? She's just a little fat to me. If I were in her shoes, I would happily trade some of my overdevelopment to be more toned.
1I'm not worried about her losing her curves because it's none of my business. Also, it's definitely possible to be thin, toned, and curvy at the same time. Look at Beyonce - she runs 6 miles and strength trains every day, and she's still very curvy.
2oh hell no, this is probably the last curvacious woman in hollywood, she better not lose all her goodies...she's really repping hardcore for normal girls, not to mention she is drop dead gorgeous!
3I think she looks great. She has an awesome shape and her body looks natural not like some of those stick woman that are all over the place.
4Looking at her I think she is gorgeous. She shouldn't lose a pound, while yes, she does have some excess weight, it just works for her. Like I think her roundness adds to her look and with an ultra flat tummy and skinny arm she would lose something.
...that being said, if this was my body I would probably want to lose 30lbs. It is weird, I don't get how my mind works. I guess we can appreciate the imperfectness and unique beauty in others but can't accept and celebrate it in ourselves.
5yikes, gotta disagree skg. I think finding a proper balance for one's body - physical and emotional - is the best way to lasting health and happiness
6I’m really appalled by what I’m reading here in the comments. How is sitting around critiquing another woman's weight healthy behavior? How about I work on keeping myself healthy and don’t try to foist my views of what’s beautiful on anyone else.
7I think one of my teachers said this before, and it applies here: so long as you're exercising regularly, eating nutritious foods, and are in good health, neither you nor anyone else should really pay attention to how your body is, it is what it is. Whether or not she's curvy or not, heavy or not, it really doesn't matter. She's exercising so her body will be what it is. She's an actress, so she is hired for how she looks, but I doubt she'll turn into a Nicole Richie, so she'll keep playing whatever role she does (I don't have cable, I actually have no idea who she is). She seems to be living a healthy lifestyle, and she seems to really love her S.O., so best of luck to her.
8'She's just a little fat to me' ??? Are you kidding me?! If you have hips, breasts, a butt, thighs and a NORMAL stomach, you're 'a little fat'? You can tell by looking at her that she is within a perfectly healthy weight range, a normal weight range. Why is it that if an actress doesn't have Angelina Jolie's body, there's something wrong with them? I think we need to stop coming onto websites and calling people who are perfectly healthy, fat. Do you people think that seeing the appalling things you people are writing would help a young woman struggling with her appearance feel any better about herself?
9I think she looks great and will also look great if she loses a little weight. She should do what she needs/wants to do to feel her best.
10If she wants to lose weight its her business.
11I can't believe anyone would call her fat. I swear people have a warped perception nowadays. Her body is AMAZING! I'm skinner than her and I envy her body but if I gain weight I would never look like her, all of it goes to my stomach and thighs. She works out so she has muscle tone and probably healthier than the thin celebrities people kill themselves to look like.
She looks good, but no one here should criticize a person for thinking she's a little fat. In this country we don't think anyone is fat because everyone here is. Anyway, it's funny how no one wants her to lose weight but none of you would be willing to take her body over a thin one I bet.
12I would definitely take her smaller-than-average body over a "thin one." Even though she may look big/curvy to some people, she's actually probably about an eight, which should be average, but is actually much smaller than the average American woman.
13There's something seriously wrong when people are freaking out over her working out 3 times a week and trying to eat healthy foods. Yes, she looks good the way she is now. But exercising will only make her healthier. I mean, if you read the story above, it sounds like she's exercising 3 times per week for one hour at a time - it's not like she's killing herself in the gym for the sake of being thin! How is saying someone will look less attractive if they lose weight any better than saying they will look less attractive if they gain weight?
14I don't care if you look like Angelina Jolie, if you don't exercise and eat with abandon, then you are unhealthy (and likely a little bit fat).
I applaud her new choices to add exercise and healthy eating into her life. I also applaud her decision to not go overboard to try to obtain an unhealthy small figure that most in hwood strive for. I think she looks better than she did a year ago. And i think she looks great.
The goal should be healthy - not how big/small you are. And she is obviously healthier now. Just cause unhealthy is "normal" does not mean it should be celebrated. I am just saying.
15It's a paradox, chloe bella. I think she looks fab and a balanced diet and exercise isn't going to change that. I wouldn't mind having those killer curves myself, but I try to keep positive about the shape I have.
16I think she's beautiful. If I was her, I wouldn't lose any weight.
There's a possibility that if she lose some weight, it may take a toll on her face. It may get too gaunt, and she would have lines around her mouth when she smiles. I think that prematurely ages a woman. I notice this happens to women who are too thin for their body type.
Right now, her face (and figure) is soft and feminine. She's just lovely. She would make a gorgeous bride right now. JMHO.
17I personally think she looks great as she is, but I don't think that she'll lose ALL her curves if she works out a little more. If anything, she'll get a little more curvaceous in the hips/butt area as she builds muscle there. I don't get how people think she's "fat"...she's average; not too skinny and not overweight. I guess compared to those really really skinny actresses, she's fat, but I'm sure they are a lot more extreme in their workout/diet regimes than Christina is.
18Fat??! Shes hot!
19She is really gorgeous just how she is.
20For those thinking she can't get really thin, or it's not possible, she was in a lifetime movie about eating disorders some years ago...and yes, she looked very thin!
21I think she is stunning! I can't imagine her without curves, it just works!
22it really only matters what she thinks of herself, and she seems to have a very healthy attitude. i understand the need to want to "tighten" and look your best on your wedding day - most women do that! i don't think she wants to shave off 40lbs, she just wants to look & feel her best.
23agree with sundaygreen
24But, I *do* see spacekatgals's point somewhat too...while I wouldnt call her fat (and I dont think spacekat was calling her 'fat' either, there is a difference between 'looking a little fat' and being 'fat'), she looks like maybe underneath that dress she might be a bit flubby with excess flab on the hips thighs and belly. Visceral fat (is that right?) will give you heart disease. Not saying that will ever happen to her...but let's be HONEST here, people?
Is she in wicked shape and a fitness role model? NO
Is she ok, and probably healthy? For sure
Is she happy? That's all that seems to matter I guess.
Personally I think it's a combination of 'is she happy' and 'is she healthy'.
I think her BMI would be on the high end of the normal range, if not in the low end of the overweight range.
She is NOT, i repeat NOT, FAT. There. So i dont get pummelled.
zeze - I saw that movie!!! She was in the clinic with tracy gold who was playing an aneorexic! Oh lifetime movies...
But as far as Christina is concerned, I think she is beautiful, but she is a bride to be - and every bride wants to look amazing in her wedding dress. I'm glad to see that she isn't being extreme about it - some are. Good luck to her.
25Okay, my bad.. that was another lifetime movie... but I'm sure I saw this one too! I went thru a lifetime movie phase..
26Speaking of the thinness of women of countries other than the US. This woman has the physique of well-to-do European women. Skinny women were malnourished due to poverty. All that has happened is the fashion industry has pushed the malnourished physique so that nothing would distract from their clothing on display hence the term 'coat hangers'. And it wasn't until Naomi Campbell's popularity that the designers begin to ride on the coattails of their popularity to sell their shows. The moved from selling clothes-art to sex. Unfortunately the youth latched on to this malnourished look and because they will and can steal the 30s and 40somethings men...we compete.
It is not so much that American women are these monstrosities other women of other countries seem to have cause to use against us but that most women who aren't biologically unhealthy, but are this size are just well-fed, active and thriving women.
In my opinion, Christina's body looks as God and circumstance designed her- a well-fed woman. What she does with her body should be in her best interest.
Audrey Hepburn said it best when complemented on her tiny waist *I'm paraphrasing* 'well, I know what it is to starve.'
27I think she's beautiful with gorgeous curves. That said - I do think she is probably on the highside of the healthy range for her body. As long as she doesn't put on more unhealthy weight (i.e. fat instead of muscle), I think she'll be fine.
zeze - I'm the same way - I can find beauty in almost everyone but when it comes to my personal preferences for myself - I have unrealistic standards.
28Excerise and a healthy diet is important for everyone.
Christina at any weight is one beautiful woman and very sexy
29I don't really care what she does but it is interesting that I don't think she would be famous without her curves.
30MissyD, you are totally understanding my point.
Look, she's gorgeous. But, you're asking my opinion about her level of fitness and I'm evaluating that within the same same standards I apply to myself. She does not look fit and toned for me. She looks healthy, but she does not look like someone who is strong. This is not my personal idea of beauty.
31I see your point, spacekatgal. I think she looks beautiful, but personally, I would NEVER want to have her body. I prefer being toned and thin - not because I'm obsessed with a shallow beauty ideal perpetuated by the fashion world, but because I'm obsessed with health and wellness.
32@ Anon - My apologies for advocating exercise on a fitness blog.
33eh let's not all get so touchy. I am a curvy person (not plus-sized, not fat, just coke-bottle shaped) but I know I'm in better shape than most of the population. A commenter's thoughts on an actress on some show I don't watch isn't going to shake my own confidence in myself!
34SHE IS SO GORGEOUS- I WOULD LOVE, LOVE, LOVE TO HAVE HER FIGURE!
35Some call it fat, I call it drop dead gorgeous!
36Anonymous: I in fact would take her body over a thin one, thank you very much.
