ASIS stands for anterior superior illiac spine (no wonder we refer to it as the ASIS!
It is the the bony prominence at the top and front of the pelvis. People often refer to it incorrectly as the "hip" bone. It is easy to find when you are lying on your back since the bone tends to stick out in the position.
