I know that a lot of us use the prospect of putting on a bikini as motivation to get fit for the summer. Now that summer is coming to an end and the time is getting closer and closer for storing those bathing suits you worked so hard to look hot in. Your motivation may be shrinking as your waistline is growing. After all the food holidays are just around the corner (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas...) so what's the point, right?
Wrong! There are many reasons why you need to keep at staying healthy, but here are a few notables:
- Exercise can help combat SAD (seasonal-affective disorder), which many of us feel as the days get shorter and colder.
- Exercise can also help combat another type of sad: The holiday blues. For whatever reason people get depressed around the holidays. Exercising is known for boosting our moods.
- Keeping at it will make preparing for next year's bikini season that much easier -- Toning up those arms is a lot more realistic than losing 30 pounds.
- If you've ever planned a last minute winter getaway to a tropical location, then you know that your bikini bod prep time is limited. Keeping fit means no sweat (not literally, of course) instead of stressing about it and embarking on dangerous quick fixes.
- Winter sports require stamina. If you've been working out then your body will be a lot more prepped for that first run down the mountain on your snowboard than if you've halted all exercising efforts.
- Exercising is just plain 'ole good for you. Keeping your body healthy ultimately means extending your life and protecting yourself from potential ailments (and diseases) down the line.
I'm sure you all have many more reasons to add for why you should stay motivated to workout even after summer, so share them in the comments section below.

Great tips. Besides: you still need to look good in your new fall outfit.
1I agree with Feesje and if you live in so-cal like I do, there's no "real" winter. Chances are you'll be in something revealing sooner or later....
2I agree, since working out is a lifelong committment, it's important to get creative to stay motivated. I just try to take each day at a time. Decide what I can accomplish today and do my best. I get overwhelmed and start to feel negative when I take on too much or too many expectations. Messes with my chi!
3I'm thinking of it this way: in mid October I'm a bridesmaid - so I have to look hot! Then there's holiday parties where I want to look good...then vacation...then it's spring again!
4i COMPLETELY agree that being fit isn't just for the summer days. Being healthy is very important and can save you in the long run. My mom who was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor is pushing on through because she is healthy and exercises on a daily basis. If it wasn't for her determination and good health she might not be doing as well. I think that's more motivation than an itsy bitsy bikini.
5I AGREE
6yea i am thinkin to find another motivation like junuary
7ddr is awesome in the wintertime!
8What about all the cute Halloween costumes?!? Gotta keep it up to pull off the sexy stuff.

10You know there's going to be tons of Christmas parties and family get togethers where you want to dress up and not look fat right? Not to mention all the pictures taken that time of year.
11We used to always do our last snowboard run of the season in our underwear. Good enough reason for me!
12Cold weather is great for workouts. More motivation to get a good, warm sweat going!
13Start now, and prepare to look hot in a bikini next summer! You have much more time to get in a good routine. I'm in So Cal, so there really IS NO WINTER....it's always bikini time.
14You don't feel SAD, you get SAD. Trust me, there is a significant difference between having "winter blues" and having SAD. Kind of like the difference between being distracted sometimes and having ADD.
And yes, it does help to exercise if you have SAD. Exercise helps everyone though.
15i like all these motivations.
also i just like using the gym when there are less people there!
