It's great to keep fitness equipment at home, but the hardest part is getting motivated to use it. Here are three things you can do so they help burn calories instead of collecting dust.
- Don't put equipment away. Many types of fitness gear can be folded up so they're out of your way, but if they're out of your sight like in your closet or under your bed, chances are you're less likely to set them up to use. So whatever you use the most, it's OK to tuck it in a corner so you don't trip and fall, but make sure it's still easily accessible.
- Set up a small fitness area with all your equipment. Place a yoga mat in the corner for stretching, a set of dumbbells for strength training, and a stability ball for both stretching and strengthening. Seeing the equipment all set up is more inviting, so you're more likely to use it.
- Buy equipment to complement the equipment you already have. If you're tired of your plain old resistance band, buy some accessories such as a door strap or ankle straps so you can mix up your routine. Or buy a fitness book or DVD to show you new ways to use the equipment you own. Put some spark back into your old favorites.

Somewhere
if you do store it, put it in high traffic areas --- put it next to your shoes, or in your pantry. you'll go in to get a snack and see the free weights.
1ha, my bike has a permanent spot in my living room
2My treadmill stays in my basement, but one rule that has proven effective is my TV rule - I only watch new episodes of my favorite shows on the treadmill. If I want to watch Project Runway or The Office, I've got to be moving to do so.
3that's a great idea, smarler
I like to DVR shows to watch on my bike trainer ... so
I (1) have good shows to watch, and (2) can ff throught commercials !
4I have a dedicated fitness room (the basement) with everything sitting out. If I go down to do laundry, or let the dogs play, I can get a workout in.
5I also have a fitness room/gym in my house. My elliptical is facing the TV and I store my stability ball right next to the TV. My dumbbells are lined up against one wall and my resistance bands are in the drawer on the TV stand. Everything is super-handy and easy to get to.
