All Summer long I have been at battle with an unsightly, and sometimes painful, plantar wart on my daughter's foot. I took a photo of it and decided to spare you all from having to view the gore. She has been quite a trooper. We have had it frozen at the pediatrician's office. We tried some wart removal product I found at the drugstore. Next stop is a dermatologist. I am wondering . . .
If so, please tell me how you won the good fight against yours.

Well my doctor thought I one, but then I went to the foot doctor and she said it was a clogged sweat duct, but she's still not sure. Nontheless, it is very similar and has gotten very painful.
1Ugh yes I had 2-3 on one foot when I was 14ish. I got them from the swimming pool (I swam a lot growing up) even though I was always super careful about it. I guess some people are more sensitive than others to those things (sorry about your daughter, Fit!).
I think I burnt the two small ones with that product (had to put a couple of drops on the warts, hurt pretty badly) and had to have the bigger one burnt by a dermatologist, ouch. Guess at least I was lucky it was summer holiday and I could hang out without shoes/socks on to let them dry.
Btw, have you tried celandine sap? Works like a charm!
2Yes, they are very painful after i tryed just about every thing over the counter med.s family doctor, dermatologist, the only thing that helped is when I went to a foot doctor and they had to cut it out of my foot. They numb the part of your foot that the wart is on then they cut all around the wart. I had to be off my foot for a few days but after having it on my foot for so long i was more than happy to do this. if you go to a foot doctor they have a few differant ways to remove them i just didnt want to have it on my foot any more so i went with cutting it out.
3My daughter had one and the doctor told me to put duct tape on it for one week. We did and the thing was gone and never returned.
4I had one when I was about 10 or so...don't know how I got it, but my dad took me in to get it froze off and luckily it never returned.
5I had mine frozen off. Not an experience I'd ever like to repeat, but at least they never came back.
6I used the duct tape trick, too. I don't know if it works with big ones. I had to leave the duct tape on for weeks, though I did change it every few days. I guess there's a chemical in it? You could get your daughter one of the colored duct tapes -- that might add a tiny bit of fun to an otherwise unpleasant experience. :/
7I had plantar warts on and off during adolescence (thanks, swim team), then got one really persistent one in college. I think I had it for five years - all of college and the first year afterwards - and I tried everything. Every over the counter product, duct tape, cutting, having it burned off by a doctor, and finally I saw a dermatologist that made me a 20% salicylic acid suspension. It took a few weeks, but that finally got it to go away.
8Tried anything to choke it out, as cotedazur did with duct tape and such. I tried the acid solution available, didn't do much...Ended up getting it cut out once, and it came back over 6 months..which is unusual... and got it cut out again, it hasn't come back since.
9i had one and my derm. said that if you get warts you are normally less prone to fever blisters and vice versa.
10I had one at around 14 years old but I didn't know it was a plantar wart at the time...I ended up just digging it out with a razor blade (I was pretty hardcore/crazy back then). Wouldn't dare do that now, but at least it hasn't come back.
11I had one on my foot for 5 years that resisted every cure in Walgreens and both burning and cutting at my doctor's office. I finally rid myself of it with apple cider vinegar. I'd soak the pad of a bandaid with the stuff and apply it to the wart, changing every morning and evening. After two weeks, the cursed thing was finally gone. I've also heard wonderful things about the duct tape, but did not try it myself.
12I had a cluster of them on my left big toe that persisted for years. I tried various OTC treatments, but since they weren't really bothering me (other than being self-conscious about it), I didn't really do much. About a year ago, they suddenly went away. I have absolutely no idea why that happened but I was thrilled!
13I had one in my pre-teen years. It was huge and disgusting. I had to have it cut out by the doctor. Large needles and a big spoonlike razor were used to dig about 1 inch into my poor foot!
I've always been interested in that type of stuff though so I thought it was cool. I've even had doctors wake my up from surgeries to see my wounds before they were stitched up...I have a steel tack in my thumb and I know exactly what it looks like and where it is!
14Know it sounds crazy but this tip is from ann landers of advice column fame: rub the wart with the inside of a banana peel! After years as a ballerina this is one weird but tried and true remedy for plantars warts. I combined this with OTC salicylic acid and the wart was gone. No horror stories of burning or cutting!
15I had one when I was in middle school. We tried two OTC remedies: little stick-on pads and the liquid. We had much better luck with the liquid, though it sounds like the one your daughter has must be very resilient!
16i had a pretty big one, very painful, but the salicylic acid suspension the dermatologist prescribed worked wonders!
17I've never had a plantar wart, but I did have a big wart on my hand by my knuckle that had to be frozen off twice before it finally went away. I still have a pretty big scar there from it.
18go to the Podiatrist!. i had a big one..very painful when taken out
19I had one the whole summer i was fifteen, it hurt like crazy but otc meds finally got rid of it.
20I had a pretty big one on my big toe and i used the duct tape trick. I changed the duct tape every night and within 2 weeks it was gone.
21I went to the podiatrist and received yeast injections . . . the wart was gone in a few months. It was pain free treatment and I didn't have to do anything on my own to get rid of it.
22Yes, I have - thank you very much, gym! I never had the wart virus until I started showering at the gym, even while wearing jandals. (I now stick to walking and yoga at home, heh). Only I left mine for like two years and it turned into a mosaic plantar warts (multiple ones, joined together - SO much less pretty than it sounds!!) I finally started doing serious battle with it a few months ago, Fit, so I feel your daughter's pain! I've been using the Scholl's wart plasters for three months and I finally seem to be getting somewhere, fingers crossed. I think it just takes a long time and you have to persevere. If the over the counter products don't get rid of all of it, I'm going to try apple cider vinegar. I really don't want to go in and get it burnt off. I've known several people who had that done and the darn things grew back anyway; and last time I was at the GP, I heard someone screaming and the receptionist screwed up her face and said "liquid nitrogen. Warts." Yes. No, thank you. I'd rather stick to the plasters, even if it takes all year.
23Tea tree oil and file it. They say it's bad to file, but try it.. ((That is, if you can.))
I second the salicylic acid mentioned above somewhere.
24go swimming! chlorine killed mine after countless attemps to take them off
25I applied this special ointment on it my grandfather brought back from Sweden. No idea what it was called but it has the same effect as freezing cos it hardened up and I got a sterilised needle to fish it out. Sounds gross and painful but it really wasnt. Hasnt come back since.
26I did the derm perscribed acid and duct tape together on my doctor's advice. I cleaned the area, smeared the acid paste on, and wrapped in duct tape morning and night. It took about 2 weeks, but worked like a charm!
27I got them from a swimming pool one summer. I had many on both feet. After five years, tons of OTC products, freezing, two doctors, one dermatologist, they wouldn't go away. I taped them up, using first aid tape, and as nasty as it sounds, you have to leave it for a few days without removing it. It dries out the warts and when you pull of the tape, the warts are left on the tape, that just sounds so gross. They were gone, and never came back.
28Yes I had a wart. It was on the inside upper part of my left heel and grew so big that the top of it actually split into 3 pieces! It would bleed every time I kicked it and so for 6 months I went without wearing shoes. Painful! I had to see my podiatrist who numbed it, cut around it, dug it out, cauterized it, and then packed it with a degradable substance. And since then no warts! Knock on wood. It's such a trip to see the virus too...
29I had a clogged sweat gland which one podiatrist thought was a callous and had decided to dig it out (ouch ouch), anyways that made matters worse and the thing grew into a planters wart and then some more, I had trouble even standing straight. I went to a better doctor (after much research) and he had to chemically freeze them and then literly burn them off with Sulphuric acid. The only salvation DUCT TAPE. the tape is God send and when I would not have it on I would be in pain. I haven't had any more cases like these now for 4 years and counting. USE DUCT TAPE
30I had one for about 2 years on the bottom of my big toe. When it was small, I tried cutting it out myself after using some really stinky OTC ointment. It had turned white and had sort of separated from the surrounding skin like it wanted to fall off...it just wouldn't. It grew back, larger, of course, and after months and months of trying one OTC remedy after another, one day it just fell off in the shower and never came back. So weird! And I still have nightmares about finding the bottoms of my feet full of the stupid things.
31Tea Tree Oil! I had a few painful ones and I put some on a q tip and rubbed it in...and after a while..it was completely gone and has never come back.
32I had one and it had to be cut out after weeks of unsuccessful medical treatment. It was pretty painful!!!!
33i have. my GP said it's caused by papiloma virus and will stay in my body forever, it will resurface at times. and it does. i go to none public places but they come back. i use OTC salicylic acid (25%) and put duck tape on my heel and it's gone in a few weeks.
34I had a plantar back in middle school. The Dr. ended up giving me a gel to put on it which ate away at the wart (probably salicylic acid but I don't remember). Once it got down to just the center of the wart that went deep into the foot, I actually pulled that out with tweezers. It HURT and it bled quite a bit, but it never came back.
35You have to see a white horse and wish it away. It worked for me as a kid
36So this is a gross story...
I was also a swimmer in childhood, but I got warts badly. At one point, I had over 140 on one foot. They were too condensed to use liquid nitrogen without hitting good skin and resistant to anything topical. My pediatrician actually found a medication used for stomach ulcers that had the weird side effect of killing warts. Had to take it 5x a day for several weeks, but it got rid of the warts permanently. Bizarre.
37I also dug my own out. I got it when I was about 15, I didn't know what it was, I didn't want to go to the doctor, so I just took a nail clipper and cut away. It was painful and gross, but it went away and I haven't had another in the past 10 years.
38DUCT TAPE! Use it on your daughters foot. I had a whole group of warts, and I tried everything short of getting them cut out (there were too many for that, I would have been unable to walk for months). Duct tape took two months to work, but I was diligent and kept it on every day, and they went away. No pain. If she has only a single wart, I'm sure it wont take nearly as long. Also, you can put some of the over the counter wart remover stuff on them, let them dry, and then put duct tape over it. Please, do this and DONT get her unnecessary and painful surgery.
39I have two right now; one on each foot. I didn't even know I had them till last November when I went for a pedicure and the woman doing my feet noticed them. I'm about 99.9% sure I got them from my gym.
I first made an appt. with my dermatologist (actually his PA), and she used the liquid nitrogen on it. Contrary to what others say, it didn't hurt. Not particularily pleasant, however, and I had a lot of soreness the rest of the day. Needless to say, it didn't work.
I then got a podiatrist referral from my PCP, and he gave me a prescription for some liquid goo that is 10% formaldahyde (sp?). He also recommended I file it down once a week or so, which I noticed one poster above said not to do. This seems to help though, at least to remove the dead skin. I use that ped-egg thing.
I've been using this formaldahyde stuff since May though, with no luck. I had a follow up appt. with the podiatrist two months ago, and he shaved the top layers of the warts off. They seemed to be gone, but came back.
I think I may try using the duct tape and maybe tea tree oil (works great on zits too!), since that seems to have worked for so many of the posters. Mine are small and don't hurt, they're just so pesky! I haven't been able to get a pedi all summer, ughhh.
40I did have one, and though I wouldn't recommend my solution for a child, it worked, has not returned, and healed quickly.
I essentially grew very frustrated with it, and literally cut it out of my foot. It bled a little, at the end, but until the deepest part I felt no pain at all. I did not remove the entire thing, as it had been there for a long time without my understanding of what it was. I thought it was an intense callous.
41So, if the wart is not sensitive on the top, or for a few layers, I would recommend peeling as much of it away (with clippers, or very carefully with a utility knife, or better yet a wart scraper tool) as you can without sensitivity and THEN applying treatments to what is left. I did this for the remaining tiny bit left, and it cleared up, healed quickly, and I've never had a problem since.
Good luck.
have a dermatologist laser it off for ya!
42I had lots of them on my feet when I was a kid and tired lots of things to get rid of them. Eventually they just went away on their own and I haven't had any for like 20 years.
43Had one as a kid on my hand, I took a pair of those beard trimmer scissors and dug the whole thing out myself
44It bled a lot but never came back.
My mom took me to a doctor who recommended radiation therapy. The doctor put me under the x-ray machine and 'x-rayed' my foot a couple of times. Completely PAINLESS and the plantar warts were gone within a couple of weeks.
45I had some bad ones when I was in middle school. My doctor actually cut mine out and put some sort of acid in the...crater. I'm not sure what else to say other than OUCH. It never did come back though...
46I had a looong battle with plantar warts, approaching 3 years now! I have spent over 5000 dollars on it so far. I actually succeeded in stopping them but could not completely eliminate them.
To date I have tried the following:
1. Ether freezing ..Result: No effect
2. Liquid nitrogen freezing ..Result: Somewhat effective
3. Toxin Injection .. Result: Somewhat effective
4. Aldara topical lcream .. Result: Very small effect
5. Laser .. Result: No effect
6. Fig milk .. Result: No effect
7. Cutting .. Result: Somewha effective
8. Therapeutic Glue .. Result: Somewhat effective
9. Duct Tape .. Result: Very effective!
Yes, amazingly Duct Tape worked the best! All you need to do is buy a roll of duct tape, tear pieces enough to cover the warts, wipe the area with alcohol to dry it up a bit, stick the duct tape, and let them stay on for at least 10 hours.
I would prefer Duct Tape therapy many times more over freezing. I once had a blister the size of a tennis ball from freezing and I am really scared of it now, although it was my fault that I did not tell the nurse to stop.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask. Your daughter has really pretty soles and I would hate it if those ugly warts did not leave them alone.
47I had about 10 pop up on my right foot after walking around the pool @ my gym. They were all clustered and hurt very bad. I tried EVERYTHING. The ONLY way I got rid of them was by cleaning my foot, taking a razor and cutting around them, then pulling the root out with tweezers. After that I put apple cider vinegar on it with a band aid. The ACV hurts pretty bad, but it's worth it when they are all gone.
48I had a really bad bunch from the gym. The last one was a mosaic (so like bunches of them at once). I had to go to a pediatrist and get it surgically cut out. It was painful but totally worth it. Two years and wart free.
I hear they can come back..let's hope not!
49I know this is a little late, but I thought I'd share.
50I had plantar warts all over the heals of both my feet by the time I told my mother about them. We tried all the usually methods- over the counter freeze off, duct tape (made mine spread faster), dermatologist freezing. Nothing was really helping. Then my derm suggested an experimental treatment. He gave me a shot of something (I'm honestly not sure what) into multiple places on my feet. Because the bottom of your foot is so sensitive, it was horribly painful, and took almost a year (they were stubborn), but I haven't had one since, and it has been over four years. My derm. told me that the shots he was giving me basically made my body create more antibodies to the wart infection, so I should probably never get another one again in my life. (Hopefully)
