Oftentimes I'll end up watching Martha Stewart when I'm at the gym, it's not that I love the show, but it's always on when I am there and I like her tips. While watching her make some ridiculously decadent baked goods, I sometimes wonder if those who are working out behind me are wondering why the heck I am watching a show about food while at the gym.
For me, it's all about the cooking tips, but after reading an interesting article on how food TV is eye candy for fitness fiends, I could see how it would make someone else angry. Some say it's motivating since those 20 minutes at the gym may mean you can actually eat that piece of cake at home. Others think that food is the last thing they want to see when they're at the gym -- Why do you think I'm here in the first place often controls those of us that feel this way. So the debate is out and I am curious: What do you think about people watching food TV while at the gym...

I watch food network alot, especially when its something fatty and yummy. I call it "food porn" you want it but can't have it. haha... I never really give into it though. But it helps keep me sane. I dont know about watching it at the gym.. I'd rather listen to music than watch TV
1whenever I see delicous food I wanna eat it...
2Some of the shows cook very healthy, and it motivates me to want to cook and eat healthier
3I get totally distracted when the Dominos Pizza adverts come on between shows. They (thankfully) do not show the food network at my gym.
=)
The irony is that I would never actually /eat/ a pizza but for a few seconds my legs will slow down and I have to kick myself back into gear.
499% of the time i'm watching food network at the gym, i have definitely gotten some dirty looks, and even a snide comment or two about my choice of programming, but i don't care! i love paula deen and giada and all the rest!
5i love the food network when im on the tremill !
6for me it's enither... i love the channel so i watch it i am not like if i burn 100 more calories i can eat that. and i am not like ohhh i wish i was eating that right now. It jsut passes the time- but i do wonder what others think.
7i don't really mind either way. i usually have my iPod up, but i love to cook so sometimes it's relaxing to look up and see Paula Deen or Giada whipping something up instead of ESPN, haha.
8oh man, I was just thinking how ironic this was the other day.. I always watch the food network when I'm weight training--or well I have it on in the background. I don't know if it's all that "motivating" for me, really it's just entertaining and something I like to watch.
9I am addicted to the food network. I always get great ideas.
10I watch food network while working out.
It motivates me NOT to eat those fatty foods (and end up like Paula Deen!)
11I always laugh when I see people watching FoodTV at the gym. It seems like they're tormenting themselves, especially when the show is about fattening food.
12in the ladies locker room gym there is always a cooking show on, and i think it is SO WEIRD! i just don't get it! (the only food show I watch is top chef, though, if that makes any difference)
13I don't like watching things about food while I work out.
14At my gym most of the machines have their own TVs ("cardio theatre" as they are called)...except for the kind of machine I use...so I am forced to watch the communal televisions on the wall, which are ALWAYS set to ESPN and ESPN2...ugh! I don't care or judge people if they are watching cooking shows while working out, I just wouldn't do it myself.
15No TV for me while working out. No magazines, either. Only an iPod. Everything else takes me out of the fitness mindset.
16Neither. I've sort of desensitized myself to food in photos....
17Food network at the gym doesn't affect me one way or the other. I would love it though if there was a tv showing a marathon of Biggest Loser on at all times though!
18It's funny that you say something, the new gym that I'm at has Food Network on their tvs every day. It doesn't bother me because I usually have my Ipod on and a book or a magazine to browse through so I don't spend much time looking at the tv.
19I love the food network, and it's often on at the gym. I don't know why though they don't have the TV on more sports channels!!
20Not at the gym..makes me wanna eat!
21I get mad if there is even a commercial about food at the gym! Cant they find some way of blocking those??? LOL!
22I could care less as long as they aren't talking on their cell phone about it.
23Doesn't bother me. If I'm at the gym it's a good way to pass the time if I didn't bring my ipod.
24Torturous!
