New reports are saying that the Treasury Department is considering a new rule that would require companies to put alcoholic content, serving sizes and nutritional information on all alcoholic drink packaging (from beer cans to wine bottles).
As of now, labels on all liquor and on wine with more than 14 percent alcohol by volume must disclose at least the alcohol content, but this is not required for beer (except in some states). However, if a brewer wants its beer to be labeled as a "light" beer, the label must show its caloric content and the percent of alcohol per volume.
What do you think -- Are you ready to see how bad (or good) for you booze is?

Ralph Lauren
Achile
Carrera
I wouldn't mind this
1it doesn't hurt?!
2It's important. Everything should have a Nutrition label.
3Sometimes I look for it and of course it's not there... Why shouldn't booze have the Nutrition Facts too?
4yes! i HATE that there's no nutrition labels on alcohol. i'm a compulsive label-reader, and i have always found this very frustrating.
5I've been waiting for this to happen!
6Good idea!
7i would like that
8I would love to know exactly how many calories are in my wine etc.
9Isn't is already mandated?
10i think all food and drink should have labels on
11How could knowing hurt?
12Hey any extra information about what im putting in my body is A OK!
13That is LAME!!! There needs to be SOME sort of sophistication. This would make alcohol seem sooo grocery store. Geez, freaking fat Americans need to eat and drink in moderation so everything doesn't have a freaking label on it!
14Hey ElectroPopTart:
freaking fat-headed Americans need to understand that SOME of us care abotu what we put in our bodies, and want to know exactly what our drinks contain.
15GOOD! I am always searching online for content and could never understand why it isn't on the package- of course we know it's not GOOD for us but I want to be able to compare while I am in the store. Maybe this will also prompt some companies to watch what IS in it.
16I also think this would make the bottle look less classy and sophisticated so I propose a little card attached around the neck of the bottle by a rubber bandy thing instead. That way the nutritional info is there, but you can remove it and it doesn't affect the look of the bottle.
17Perfect solution numer6_ed
Still the sophistocation, but also the information to make an informed choice and keep track of the calories and sugars. You should send that idea off to the powers that be...
18I'm with nubmber6. Great idea. Really, if I buy a bottle of wine for a hostess, I don't want it marred by and ugly food label. Really people, are you drinking THAT MUCH that you need to know it's nutrition contents? I understand wanting to know the caloric content, but perhaps the vineyards just need to post this info on their websites? Let's not ruin a good thing!
19I dont' care because I dont trust nutrition labels anyway. How many products out there claim NO TRANS FAT, yet have partially-hydrogenated oils in the ingredients??? It's all bunk.
20I like the website idea best of all.
21MissRoxy - You can find out whether a product has trans fat by reading the ingredient label. If it has less than .5 g, they don't need to list it.
22I think it's a great idea. I always look up the calories online anyway. I'd be interested in knowing the sugars, carbs, etc.
Website and card attached would be great, I agree a label on the back does ruin the sophistication..
23I don't really care, but I like my pretty wine bottles without ugly ingredients lists on them.
24a good designer can make a bottle/label look sophisticated, even if it features valuable information on nutrition. besides, how is being uninformed sophisticated?
25good point br0wneyed9irl00.
26I don't think there's anything wrong with listing nutritional info...why not?? A lot of beer bottles actually have the nutrition info listed on the side of the label really discreetly; its possible to do it without plastering an ugly "Nutrition Facts" on the label...I don't see why it should be any different with wine bottles.
27I say put it on the bottom of the bottle.... Its so ugly.....so make us have to flip the bottle over to see...
28I have to say its a cool idea. they could try printing it on the bottom of the bottle? that wouldent be so bad. i know when i stopped drinking wine it helped me loose weight. if you are drinking 2-3 glasses of wine a night its easy to gain weight!
29I don't think I would pay attention but it might be helpful to people that have no clue about how many calories their drinks have
30i would love this, at a party
31earlier, i picked up the pinot grigio
and was definitely wondering how
many calories and sugar i was putting
into my body.
Why not! I'd like to know instead of guessing.
