I was perusing through a magazine last night and saw a huge ad for Alli, the first FDA-approved over the counter diet pills, and that got me thinking. As women feeling the pressures of having the perfect Barbie-body, I'm sure we've all had thoughts about how to get a quick fix. So I want to know...

1diet pills only work if you take them religiously... I'm not willing to get my body hooked on a drug--yes, it is a drug--that has yet to be fully tested. Plus, nothing bad comes from a little hard work and discipline... working out and eating right have proven to be effective (and the benefits your body receive are unmatchable) so why try to "cheat" yourself out of a better way of life by taking the easy (and not yet proven effective) way out?
2they try to make alli seem so great, but I'm still kinda skeptical. they are very publicized right now
3I never tried diet pills, and I never will...
4I have been taking diet pills on and off for years. I have tried almost every type of diet pill out there. And they all have pretty much the same effect. When you first start taking them...you lose weight...but it's all your water weight. You still need to eat right and exercise. There is no "Magic" diet pill that will make you lose weight with out changing your eating habits or exercise...Plus, I have not found one that doesn't have some type of side effect...jitters....hair loss...etc. Not to mention, that your body becomes dependant on the diet pill and when you go off the diet pill..you have to work twice as hard to keep the weight from coming back on. The claims are tempting when a new pill comes out....because you want to believe that it works. I do not take them any more...I just watch what I eat and exercise.
5i used to take waaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy too many stackers.
6Yes, and it sucked! It gave me the jitters and I felt short of breath. I only tok them for 4 days, and I was totally done wasting my money.
7i took ephedra after i gained my freshman 15 (or 30, whatever). it worked AWESOME and the weight melted off, but i was also always shaky and it gave me headaches. i stopped taking the pills and, luckily, haven't put the weight back on or used any pills since.
8Allí seems like waste of money. Due to all the hype, I read the pamplet at the store and considering the questionaire: commit to low-fat diet, exercise, etc... any rational person will see that they can save that money for new clothes if they are willing to make that commitment.
And "anal-leakage" does not seem like something a person should commit to.
9my friend and i were taking Mega-T green tea pills last year. they gave me energy but after a short time theymade me irritable and my heart was fluttery. definitely a waste of money. just drink natural green tea or stick to your morning coffee fix.
10i tried some all natural green tea pills that were supposed to 'curb appetite' and 'boost metabolism'. They did pretty good and since they were all natural it was like 4 dollars a box. but i don't think i could ever do something such as alli exedra cialias or any of those things.
11I'm currently taking alli as well as eating better and working out (althought believe me, I am NOT perfect about it). Alli isn't just take a pill and be skinny. It's there to Aid your weight loss. I've had NO side effects, and I thought I would, since at times I have a hard time sticking to to low fat part of the diet. I've lost 8 lbs and will continue until I reach my goal. Like everything else, it's not for everyone, but it's working for me. People are so quick to judge all the time, because you only here about the bad stuff. I had worse side affects when I got the Depo Birth Control shot. But am I going to slam that? No, it works for some, just not for me, and that's okay.
12I took trimspa and it worked for the first 4 days but then the effects did not work and I had to take more and more. Needless to say diet and exercise is the only way to go.
13There is no such thing as an all natural diet pill.
And the ones that you lose weight the first few days, you are actually losing WATER weight. The same as 'water pills' that they give high blood pressure patients. You lose excess water = loss pounds on the scale.
Why do diet pills always say you see results with diet and exercise? Because THATS THE ONLY NATURAL DIET. Diet and Exercise!!!
14i have not takin one yet.. but i have been thinking about the idea... cuz i have been working out like 3 days a week.. just toning like legs abs n my butt! and i just wanna loose that little bit of fat! and a friend of mine in taking hydroxycut.. n he said they work great..i mean the guy has lost 20 lb in about 4 months.. i dont wanna loose that .. only like 10 and the most.. so i think i might try one cycle of them and see how that goes.. cuz im going to continue to exercise so im not lookin for a miracle.. just that extra 10 lbs!! grrrrr cuz im soo tiny and dont NEED to loose weight.. soo its extra hard!! im like 5'3 and 125... damn water! haha
15ooo and another thing
QUESTION:
Do you know if taking diet pills effects your birth control??
16Yes. And I became hopelessly addicted and got a lovely little case of arrythmia.
17all diet pills are is a quick fix...in order to loose weight/keep it off and stay healthy you need to make a complete life style change.... i just don't get it...
18I took green tea pills the beginning of the year, but that got too expensive so I just drink fours cups of green tea a day now. Neither are quick fixes, but it helps boost the metabolism.
19i've always thought "diet pills don't work" and that they're a scam. because, really, the best way to lose weight is exercise and a good diet. nevertheless, i won't deny that i've tried them. i have tried zantrex-3 (still have more to take) and i think stacker 3 and MAYBE two hydroxycut...a friend of mine reccommended the nutritional vitamin/mineral chromium picolinate, so i've been taking those. zantrex-3 makes your heart race like no other. i do not know if the pills actually worked because i work out and eat well anyway...
20but i'm skeptical about the new alli pills. i know someone whose sister has been taking them and she told me how the pills work. they pretty much are like laxatives; whenever you eat too much fat, it goes right through and "accidents" and "leakage" are possible. yikes.
no they scare me!
21I was talking Xenadrin, and I started to black out every time I stood up. And once I almost blacked out completely almost falling, but my cousin caught me. I never took it again.
22I took Phen-Phen back in the day before they banned it. I lost 30 lbs. in 30 days, but I didn't like how I felt while I was taking them (the first week I slept around 2 hours a night) and would never take diet pills again.
23I tried several of the OTC ones and they never worked for me. They either did nothing, or gave me insomnia. And when my sleep is really messed up, my resistence to junk food is at a total low. So they're pretty much useless as far as I'm concerned.
Self-discipline and patience are the best diet pills.
24I used to take Diet Fuel from GNC and it would make my heart race and jittery. I finally stopped after an incident I had with them. Total wake up call. I believe in exercise and a healthy eating plan.
25I've tried a few and they just make me jittery and nauseous. Not fun. Sometimes the old fashioned way (in this case, a healthy diet and exercise) is best.
26I take phentermine (Adipex), and have taken it for the past year. It's truly the only thing that has helped me. It supresses my appetite, because otherwise, I couldn't lose weight. I have an appetite like a man. I can seriously eat anything. I have no no ill side effects from taking adipex, other than the dry feeling in my mouth everyone once in a while. It's actually helped my blood pressure and tachycardia.
27I only take these energy pills that people use also for diet pills. I think they are combo energy/fat burner because I am sometimes wiped out after work when I meet with my trainer. I am very happy with my size...like I said, when I need an herbal boost of energy.
Most pills also contain caffeine. I kicked the coffee habit and now do tea.
But I agree with everyone on this.
28no and I never will because people died from phenphen.
29I sometimes take Xenedrine if I feel like I need a bit of a boost before a work out.
30No, but I've been tempted to.
31thoguth about it a lot mostly lately. My husband took some and swore they were working but he's lost more weight now that he's off
32I took trim spa which smelled and tasted horrible! They looked like vitamins...I never finished the bottle, I never noticed results. I also took Zantrex 3 because a friend swore by them, he said he had enough energy to be able to run the treadmill for 30 minutes straight, and he was a hardcore smoker! All the Zantrex did was make me feel like a crackhead. I would get crazy bursts of energy and horrible headaches during the crash. I would not recommend any of this, save your money, or better yet, if you want to throw it away, I'll take it!
33They triggered migraines. Never again!
34They might work for some, but I'd rather just watch what I eat and exercise. I've heard that most people gain all the weight back (*and then some!*) after they stop taking diet pills.
35The thing is: if you stop taking these pills (without adding a healthy diet and exercise in your daily routine) you gain your lost weight back again. So you can choose to take expensive, sometimes not working, and probably unhealthy pills for a while and lose weight for a short period of time, OR you can commit yourself to a healthy diet and lots of exercise and lose weight for a long time. It's up to you. There really is NO easy way to lose weight permanently.
36Yes and they were a waste of money.
Furthermore the FDA does not regulate diet pills so there is no telling what is actually in the pill. Pills are only pulled when they kill or harm enough people.
OTC diet pills usually are just glorified diuretics, caffeine, and fiber pills.
And an all natural label does not mean that the pill is safe. There are many things that are all natural that are harmful and there is no guarantee that the ingredients are natural because the pills are unregulated.
You'll notice that every diet pill has a disclaimer that it is to be used in conjunction with diet and exercise. Basically because you won't lose the weight and keep it off by taking the pill.
37i take a Px med that also has "diet pill" like benefits, due to it lowering your appetite and giving more energy. I don't think I have lost any weight from being on it but maybe it helped me not gain any
38I've been thinking about it but my friends say I don't need to. Sigh.
39My doctor has put me on Meridia to aid in weight loss, it is a precription weight loss aid. He explained to me that there is nothing wrong with taking wieght loss drugs that are prescribed because the risk is less than getting a weight related illness, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, etc. Also, no one would critisize you for taking insulin, or a drug for cholesterol, both of which could be helped by diet, but there is a stigma attached to weight loss drugs. Or even depression drugs, people are ok with those. People say don't be lazy, eat less etc. I do try both, but just need a little help with the cravings for food which meridia helps with. There is nothing to be ashamed of taking prescription medication for weight loss. It isn't a get slim quick thing either, I am monitored regularly for side effects, follow a healthy eating plan and exercise regularly. I have lost over 30 pounds since January, which isn't extreme, but I don't think I would have been able to do it without help. I have tried in the past to no avail. It is a better solution than gastric bypass.
40never-its all b.s
41I took some for a couple of weeks, but then I realized how much happier I'll feel if I lost the weight through exercise
42never have and never will. it's all a bunch of crap.
43Very nice site!
