In preparation for Shaq's Big Challenge season finale tomorrow, I thought it would be fun to join in the fitness games and see how you measure up by taking the, duh duh dum, President's Physical Fitness Test.

You're going to need to time yourself (or have someone else time you). If you don't know how to do any of the moves, download a description here.
| The Move | The Challenge | What the Kids Can Do? (ages 10-17) |
|---|---|---|
| Curl-Ups | How many did you do in one minute? | Girls: 30-35/Boys: 35-45 |
| 1-Mile Run/Walk | How fast did you do it? | Girls: 10-11 mins/Boys: 7-8 mins |
| Pull-Ups | How many did you do in one minute? | Girls: 1/Boys: 2-8 |
| Push-Ups | How many did you do in one minute? | Girls: 10-16/Boys: 14-37 |
| Shuttle Run | How fast did you do it? | Girls: 11-12 secs/Boys: 9-12 secs |
| The V-Sit | What mark did you reach? | Girls: 3-5.5 inches/Boys: 0.5-3 inches |
Try it out -- If nothing else you'll get a mini workout in the middle of the day. I got 37 curl-ups, 20 push-ups and 11 seconds for the shuttle run! There's not enough space in here to test my skills at the others, but I am pretty sure I'd be getting an A+ in gym class. So what did you get?

I'm doing pretty good down the list so far. I am a little confused at the explanation of a v-sit though.
1I bet the prez couldn't even do this
2oh dear. i probably won't even be able to beat majority of these challenges lol
3I remember having to do these in jr high and high school.
4If I remember correctly (can't view the pdf... need new computer!) the v-sit is where you sit on the floor with your feet flat up against something. Then you put a yard stick where your feet start, and basically you measure how far you can reach past your toes. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but that's what I remember doing! I also remember that I was good at that one and the shuttle... not so much at the pull-ups!
LOL girlboy - I agree. Especially the v-sit! I totally remember doing this in elementary school - I could do a LOT of crunches back then without getting tired!
5Haha, I remember doing this every year in elementary school. I always would get the white patch, and when I finally got a red one I was so excited! I still may have those somewhere around the house.
6I find it sad that the boys have MUCH higher expectations than the girls.
7in my school, we have these tests at the end of the year. we also have to do arm hangs for upper body strength. those are killer.
8I was horrible at this in Jr High. Probably because my friends and I barely participated in PE...I'm sure I'd do better now though.
9I could never do a pull-up, so I never got the Presidential award. As I recall, the girls who couldn't do pull-ups did some kind of flex-arm hang thingie instead.
1043 curlups, 7:45 mile, 0 pull ups, 25 pushups, v-sit (we called it sit and reach) 38cm, and 11 second shuttle run. My high school gave out tshirts for everyone that won the presidential fitness award
11Oh I remember I had to do this in 4th grade! I was the only person who couldn't do a single pullup. But that was ridiculously unfair because the girls would get their "1" using impulse - they would grab the bar and jump up. I was too short to reach the bar and couldn't cheat like that.
Wow I haven't thought of that in years and apparently I'm still bitter.
12when i was 11 i won that award!
