Star Jones Reynolds miraculously lost upwards of 160 pounds over three years. While media speculation went wild over whether or not she had gastric bypass surgery, Star claimed she only had a "medical intervention," but she never admitted to the surgery.

Now, in the September issue of Glamour, she's admitting that, yes, she actually did have gastric bypass surgery. She fully admits to being afraid of what others would think of her. On one hand it's her life, and I wish the media would've just left her alone in the first place. On the other hand, I almost feel it is socially irresponsible for her to keep it a secret because of all the women out there who may use her as a role model and weight loss. It's almost the same as looking at those photoshopped images in magazines, and not realizing they are photoshopped.
I am on the fence about this one. I am however thrilled for Star. She looks phenomenal, and I do hope that she can be a positive role model for those considering surgery -- Read her whole story online at Glamour.com. I'm curious what you guys think about it, so share you opinions in the comments section below.

It was hard for her to admit that so why should I care. She is taking care of herself and making sure she maintains a healthy lifestyle who am I to judge her success.
I wish she would have just admitted that in the first place. We would not have had to hear Rosie blabber on about it for the best 2 years.
Yeah, I think she really should have said so from the beginning. It gives false hopes to obese women who think they can go from one extreme to the other with just diet and exercise (that fast).
I can understand why she held off telling people. She probably didn't need the added stress of people judging her while trying to keep up with discipline that's required after that surgery. My mother was an emotional mess after hers and I think being in the public eye couldn't have made this easy for her (especially since she was popular and categorized as a thick woman). I still have my ups and downs about gastric bypass surgery, but she looks healthy (and hopefully is) and that's what matters.

No way...
Oh yeah, P.S. I'm sure this is all for the publicity.
This is what did it in for me about Star! Not admitting to the gastric bypass just confirmed that she was a hypocritical, lying, snob! Did you really think people would believe you lost 160 lbs doing yoga and crap? She could have easily used her experience to help others. Instead she caused outrage and hate over the way she was behaving! What I also hated about her at that time was her nasty attitude about it. I personally saw her on an episode of The View tell the viewers thats its ""none of your business" what she did. Your just a ignorant old cow Star looking for some conveniently timed publicity for your new show!
i dont think there was any reason to hide it. there is nothing wrong with getting the surgery. there is still hard work and excercise involved to make it a success. it is merely a helping hand. she should be proud not ashamed for taking control of her life.
Didn't she write a book about losing weight and finding love, yet never mentioning even in that that she had surgery? I get the feeling that if someone had given her money to promote it, she would have admitted the surgery. That she chose not to help others when she had the opportunity is just more shame on her.
I think I would have had more respect for her if she came right out and said it. But I think it's very unfair that she's given a lot of false hope to people. The artical states her saying she looked in the mirror and saw how obese she was and took the first steps into the doctor's office. Well, a lot of other people would have looked at themselves and taken the first steps by saying, "You need to stop treating your body like this."
You think she looks phenomenal? She looks like a scary bobblehead to me. Is this common with g.b?
yeah, she does look kind of creepy, muppets
I still believe in survival of the fittest (without surgery)...
I think if you are going to make the decision to have the surgury you better be prepared to be vocal about it because it's going to be pretty obvious the pounds are 'melting' off.
I never like her morbidly obese Jessica Rabbit self anyway. And I don't like the slimmed down, toned down version much either. Yeesh.
What is so wrong by saying you had the surgery? I would rather come out and say "I had to do it for my medical health" rather than let people talk about if I had it or not - then come out with the truth years later. I never liked her anyways.
man...tell me something i didn't know already!
I'm not surprised- how else would she have such a dramatic weight loss? and I don't think she looks amazing now, it's her personal choice of her weight loss method though
Is this really a surprise? I had always assumed she had gotten gastric bypass surgery and was just lying about it. From my own experience, you can't lose the amount of weight she did as quickly as she did by just diet and exercise. I'm betting she also had some cosmetic procedures to get rid of the leftover loose skin, too, since she looks pretty toned in the after picture - especially in her upper arms.
it was so obvious, and i think it was irresponsible of her to let everyone think that she had suddenly slimmed down A LOT in a short period of time just through diet, exercise, and prayter. she wasn't fooling anyone, it wasn't as if it was gradual or anything.
I don't get why she would think people will think less of her just because she had that surgery done. What's wrong with it? It's taking care of yourself. It's not like she had a boob job or anything.
gaspingg
Duh! Why is this news?
She's probably just looking for a reason to be back on tv and blogs because she's been out of the limelight for a while. I think everyone knew that she had this done. I never thought there was any way with her schedule that she could have done this with diet and exercise.
I think she really wanted everyone to believe it WASN'T gastric bypass!!!!! Her dress size may have changed but she is and always will be a BIG FAT LIAR!!!!!! I don't think she has any credibility left at all. The first time Rosie O'Donnell called her out on it she should have owned up.....that was long after she knew the procedure had worked!!!!
She admitted this on Larry King already, several years ago. Old news. She just didn't say the words "I had gastric bypass." She said "medical intervention," and when Larry asked her if she meant surgery, she said "I don't know what else 'medical intervention' could mean."
I have to agree with Star. Announcing her surgery back then wouuldn't be a great idea. People would run out without thinking to have it done since she was successful.
Having this surgery is very risky. I know someone that's lost 2 years of her life due to a botched surgery. She's now recovering from surgery 3 or 5 to correct the mess up and almost lost her life a few times until a doctor (she saw many) would agree to go in blind and see what actually went wrong. He found her parts were hooked up wrong, lost parts of intestine due to loss of blood flow and may now lose her belly-button.
She's very lucky to be alive right now.
I pretty much thought she had surgery all along...she lost so much weight so quickly and would only push how much excersice she did....
Shame on her for not admitting to this right away. She put herself up there as an example to other people that if she can do it, so can they. Yet it turns out she didn't do it at all. She had the surgery. And this oversight in her diet discussions pretty much sums up Star Jones, in my estimation. What a stupid thing to lie about over and over.
I can't stand her. I agree Marci, it pretty much sums up what kind of a person she is. I don't trust anything that comes out of her mouth.
Why did she keep it a secret? I dont get it! Lots of people keep g.b and other weight surgeries a secret.. But why? As for Muppet, I have a friend who had g.b and she has a bobblehead too! Hm..
What a MAJOR shocka!
My co-workers and I were talking about this the other day. I'm sure she was just ashamed of admitting it; she probably didn't want to say that she took the "easy" way out.
I liked when she looked like a giant infant and still needed a diaper change better
I think she looks just as bad now
