I'm a huge fan of trail running for so many reasons. It's peaceful in the woods, all those hills are great for toning your quads and booty, the shade is cooler and protects you from UV rays, and the soft dirt is easier on your joints than pavement. I also love that unlike the gym, I don't have to wait in line or be tied to time limits, so I can run whenever I want for as long as my feet will carry me. Running in the woods also means I can bring my pooch along.
As if I needed another reason to love trail running, research shows that choosing the trail over the treadmill or pavement burns 10 percent more calories. That's because the terrain tends to be uneven, there are hills to conquer, and also obstacles to jump over. So if you've been loving the treadmill because you're trying to avoid the Summer heat, now is the perfect time to make the switch and hit the trails.

I love trail running (or in my case, trail jogging). You're right -- the dirt and turf is easier on the joints. This is why do it. I'm trying to guard my lower back and knees.
Also, the air seems fresher (probably due to the trees and plants).
1You can run hills on pavement !
But I do love trail running and recently bought trail running shoes
2I wish there were more places around me for trail running. If I want to do it now, I have to drive to one of the state parks and even then, I have to share the trail with bikers. Still, it IS a great workout.
3I so wish I could do this, I have a really curved lower spine and dodgy knees so I'm stuck with the cross-trainer
(
4will do
5I guess I'm lucky to live where I do, after all! There are so many woody trails that no one ever uses. Another plus is that you can take your dog with you, =^). My baby loves running trails almost as much as I do. So many new smells!
6I love trail running. I tend to be so focused on my foot placement and on not tripping, that the run seems to be easier and go by faster compared to running on the roads.
