Shaq's Big Challenge continues to keep my attention, five episodes in and I can't wait for next week's season finale!
Last night the kids were looking good. I am officially loving Chris, the eleven year old that has lost 40 pounds so far -- His spirit is really uplifting and that much weight loss is pretty substantial for such a little guy! All the kids continue to amaze me with their support for others as they invited friends to participate in the program and a lot of kids showed up. One mother mentioned that this 'after school program' is a fabulous idea since her overweight son does not use gym class to exercise due to being embarrassed. However, in an after school program for overweight kids, much like what Shaq was promoting, he feels like he fits in and actually enjoys working out with other kids who have the same goals in mind. What a great idea! Other communities should put together similar programs to encourage exercise for overweight kids.
Another interesting part of the show was the Shaquille O'Neal's Wellness Wheel, which is a comprehensive program where kids learn about how to cook healthy meals (home economics), how the foods affects their bodies (health) and then how to burn if off (gym). I love it! In fact, it kind of reminds me of what we're doing over here at FitSugar! I actually got my hands on a tasty little recipe from the program and I thought it would be great for anyone trying to eat healthy, not just the little ones. To learn about it for yourself, just read more

Love this show...I can't get over how much happier the kids seem to be since losing weight. It's great!
1I almost cried yesterday. The show is sooo good. It is really inspiring, More things definitely needs to be done to fight childhood obesity.
2Oh, I DID cry. It's so great to see these kids making meaningful changes in their lives. I really have gained a whole new respect for Mr. O'Neal. He really does want to have an impact on the childhood obesity problem, and he is! I hope these kids excel in life. They've been given a really good start!
The supporting players, Coach Brown, Doc, Mr. T, the nutritionist, and Tyler are fantastic too!
3That omelette-in-a-bag is actually a popular camping recipe, since it's so easy to make outdoors. I've never tried it myself but it certainly looks yummy!
4I love this show. I also love the idea of the idea for overweight kids. My goal is to be a dietician/trainer specializing in childhood obesity, so I'm supportive of anything in that direction.
5I loved this episode. After last week's disappointments with the administration (no support), poor Tyler's bust in the cafeteria, I was so glad to see some progress in this episode. The administration came around, the kids are on their way our of the morbidly obese and obese classifications, and the healthy foods were a hit! It brought tears to my eyes to see the kids support one another and actually say they wanted to keep going. How inspiring! I really hope this serves as a model for other schools to follow.
On another note, laurarose520 I wish you all the best in reaching your goal of specializing in childhood obesity. The world needs more of you!
