So you've been to the gym every other day for the past 3 months and are feeling great. However you're not losing weight! Why?
Here are three potential culprits:
- You're eating too many calories. Remember you need to eat, keep a food diary and wear a heart rate monitor to really get on top of your daily calories in/calories out. Better yet? Splurge on a bodybugg, which does it all for you.
- You're eating too much junk food. A lot of us think that because we are busting our butts at the gym we can eat whatever we darn well please. Sure, if you want to continue busting your butt without seeing any results. As good as those McDonald's fries may be, fruits and veggies are your friend.
- You're not getting the best cardio workout you could be getting. Sure you go to the gym and hit the treadmill for 30 mins four times a week, that is great and better than nothing. Problem is you need to incorporate variety into your routine. Add intervals. Take a class here and there. Do the elliptical instead of the treadmill. Swim. Whatever you choose, your weight loss goals will benefit from it.
- You're walking too slow. If your goal is to lose weight, then walk to lose weight, not to leisurely stroll down the street. This is called fitness walking and it's just a little bit faster and a little bit more of a planned workout than strolling through the mall.
- You're not strength training. You need to add strength training to increase lean muscle mass, which burns more calories. An added benefit of strength training? This is what helps you get that toned look you've been wanting for so long.

Great tips! If I don't keep a food journal I quickly lose track of miscellaneous snacks and grazing attacks. Nibbles add up fast!
1"As good as those McDonald's fries may be"
nosegrease tastes good?
2thanks this is what i do and lose about a few pounds a week. i weened myself off that junk food and feel lighter already!
3You may not be eating enough either. Weight Watchers made me realize that skipping breakfast, having a Lean Cusine for lunch, running for 45 minutes and having a salad for lunch only makes your body hang on to whatever fuel it gets!
4Strength training was the best thing I ever did for my workouts!
5Eating to many calories always does it!! Darn it, food tastes so goOD!
6Thanks for the reminder, interval training is the best!
7I'm going to use these tips to see if it helps me with my last 5 - 7 lbs.
8Probably number 2 for me. I'm guilty.
9Such basic ideas, but so easy to ignore. It's nice to see it on paper (or screen) to reinforce it.
10I don't have anytime for such work outs all I get to do is go swim every weekend and walk on the beach..
11Once you do this program for nine or ten weeks would it be beneficial to start increasing speed and doing intervals during the 3 mile/30 minute run? Say jog for 1 minute and stride for 3? I would think this has metobolic benefits, but does it also have cardio benefits? Or would it be better to do the shorter run during the week and increase time/distance on the weekend?
12a good reminder to switch up my cardio during the week. i often do the same treadmill routine and it gets rather boring.
13I over eat and drink too much. i could stand to lose a few. I think 118 for 5' is too big. on me anyway
