Lauren Conrad's tale proves that moving on and letting go make for a healthy life. The former star of The Hills has not only embraced love with the actor Kyle Howard, but healthy eating is a staple of her new life, too. Gone is the worry of what others think and the junk-food cravings. All good changes for the natural beauty, which she shares in the upcoming issue of Shape.
Once a calorie counter, LC is more flexible these days when it comes to food choices. Opting for fresh fare — fruit, organic salad greens, and lean proteins — she has tamed her cravings.
"I've found when all I'm eating is really fresh, healthy foods, I stop craving pizza and burgers," she says. Lauren's even switched to super-nutritious nibbles (what she calls "snack plates"): hummus, sliced turkey, cucumbers, and apples. "When I have these foods in front of me, I find it easier to avoid high-calorie binges," she says.

As we all know, dating can do a doozie on your figure and a month into her relationship with Kyle, Lauren felt soft in the middle. She called her weight gain her "boyfriend layer." Proving they're a healthy couple, LC and Kyle hopped on the fitness train together:
"We like doing outdoor stuff: tennis, bike riding, kayaking, stand-up surfing, hiking in the canyons around L.A.," says Lauren. "I just ask Kyle, 'You feel like working out?' It's more fun than hitting the gym alone."
I completely agree that working out is more fun with a friend or loved one. For a while though, LC's self-esteem was being undermined by backstabbing "friends." After encouraging words from her mother and a close friend, Lauren definitively decided to stop worrying about what other people think of her.
"The next day I got a tattoo on my lower back that says 'sticks and stones,' because they may break my bones, but words will never hurt me. Once I let go of that, I felt more confident about myself. And that made my decision to leave The Hills pretty easy."
While we will all miss her weekly TV appearances, it will be fun to see where Lauren's new attitude takes her.

I think she is absolutely stunning! Some may say that she's boring, but I think she's just being herself. I'm glad she's done with the "the hills" though, I think it was getting old.
1I love when people advocate a nice, healthy lifestyle in the 20's. It's not all about binge drinking and pizza at 2 am...it's about laying a really solid foundation for the rest of your life, and maybe even a future family. Be healthy, live longer, be happier, be more energetic -- that's really the ticket, here. I do like her. She seems down to earth, and the kind of person who is more into health for the sake of health, and not so much to be a typical cookie-cutter, "I gave in to celebrity pressure" type of girl. Perhaps I relate to her because I am around her age. Who knows.
2I love LC and think she is beautiful, but this is just way too much photoshopping. I wish they would just show her naturally.
3ANOTHER Shape cover with a person in a bikini, thigh-deep in water. Do they even have an art department over there?
4Nice body. I am glad she lives a (seemingly) healthy lifestyle.
5She looks great! This cover is definitely motivating me to go do some cardio which i have been putting off for hours.
6SOOOOO FREAKING PHOTOSHOPPED
7why are the shape cover girls always standing in water up to their thighs? so weird...
8Damn she looks good! Idk why but I am really jealous of her breasts!? Well let's honest I'm jealous of her entire body! She looks fantastic!
9She doesn't seem too super-Photoshopped to me. I mean, on the show she doesn't look all that different in the beach scenes.
10It looks like they put her head on a different body. It could be angle though.
11I admit I hate her personally, but the idea about "snack plates" is a good one.
12I don't really watch The Hills and I'm not very familiar with LC, but she sounds like a healthy person to me. It's cool that her boyfriend is supportive of her fitness habits and wants to work out with her. I do think she looks a little bit too smooth on the magazine cover, but that's very typical of Shape magazine, so I'm not surprised.
13I don't think they took too many pounds off of her with photoshopping, but this is obviously photoshopped, if only to make her look more sculpted and to make her skin look a little smoother!
I like her anyway. It seems like she has a healthy attitude toward food and fitness. (Among other things.)
14She won the genetic lottery if she's that skinny and has such perky boobs...
15She looks great and Im buying this shape issue. I am a calorie counter at this moment and really want to change my attitude toward food!
16I really don't think she looks that different from real life..they just smoothed out her skin
17Regretting that tat in 3, 2, ...
18Isnt this an old cover I swear it came out months ago. Besides that I hate her she is so d list I wish she would go away. I heard she is takes aderall to stay skinny so shes lying about "healthy eating".
19They photoshopped her right arm a little too much. It looks funny.
20she looks amazing!!!
21i dont think she is photoshoped much
She looks awesome! If those are her boobs, im jealous!!
22I read another tidbit of her shape interview on another blog today, where she talks about "the boyfriend layer"--the weight you gain when you get serious with someone and its all about romantic meals and cuddling... yeah, as you can tell, I have experience with said "boyfriend layer."
23whether or not she was photoshopped isn't the important thing that she is having a posotive healthy relationship with wholesome, good-for-you foods? Lets face it, if I were going to put my body on the cover, photoshop me to the MAX!
24Yay! A tramp stamp to solve her problems.
Ok, seriously though, she doesn't bug me (other than the fact that she's not only an author of a published book, but a best seller), she looks amazing. and her friends are shady.
25i still find her boring and not that cute in the face, but her body looks great.
26She looks fantastic! Excited to read this issue!
27Grrr when is this issue going to be available
28She is beautiful and I cannot wait to get this issue. I love her attitude about food. Should be coming in the mail soon!
29Her body looks the same as it always has/does, so I don't think it's that photoshopped. No idea if she's eating as healthy as she says she is, but I'm willing to bet that she does most of the time. And as for Adderall? Doubtful, she is thin but not too skinny.
Hope she gets the tat removed though, that sounds pretty tacky and out of character for her...
30Oh whatever... nobody would buy the magazines if there weren't photoshopped images on the cover. People talk about it like its some machine that does it- it's a person- a creative director somewhere telling a skilled photo editor to make it look like that. Magazines sell an image- I'm pretty sure the sky's not really purple either.
