It's the peak of tourist season in San Francisco, and the streets are full of adventurous travelers riding around on rented bikes. I admire people who want to stay active on vacation, and bicycling is a great way to explore a new city. Do you ever rent bikes while traveling?

Never have, but I should sometime!
1Beach cruisers in the summer are so much fun!
2I just bring my own.
3I did once in Berlin, and it was so awesome! Super fun and super convenient. Plus, I didn't feel like a tourist (although I probably looked like one).
4Never have, but I really want to. I'm always a little self-conscious that I'll have forgotten how to ride a bike since I so rarely do
5I did when I went to Israel and I'm headed to Vail, CO in a few weeks and plan to tour most cities via bicycle. I am so excited!!
6I bring my bike
7oh have fun michlny !!
8No. I'm cheap, so we walk everywhere instead.
The one exception is Amsterdam, as the city is BUILT for cyclists. I swear the roadways have priority over pedestrians! Had to rent a kid's bike though, as I'm too short for normal ones.
9fizzymartini - I love your image, haha!
Never rented a bike, but we walk everywhere or take public transportation like the subways or buses.
10Nope, never!
11Hey, thanks RunningEsq!
12Yeah! It was the highlight of my trip to San Francisco. Nothing beat riding across the Golden Gate Bridge and throughout Sausalito.
It was a blast in Portugal too!!!
13Cheers Yogaforlife, hehe!
Yeah, I always feel you can really see places better on foot. Riding a bike is fun, but places whizz by and you kinda have to keep an eye on the road at least
And the plus-sides of taking public transport include really getting into the locals' way of
life, and you get to keep ticket stubs as souvenirs!
14It does sound appealing to tootle around on a bike to explore a city. The problem is that I hate riding bikes! Hurts my booty and I'm always tense that I'm going to get mowed down by a car.
15We started doing this and now it's our plan to bike every time we go to a new city.
We biked through London, which was thrilling riding on the left side of the road.
And then recently we biked Manhattan. It's a great way to cover tons of miles (we got in about 15-20 miles) and see a lot more than you can on foot. Plus it's just exhilarating in general to be out on the street.
16We need a "Take my bike with me!" option.
I always take my road and mtn bikes with me when I can.... and in general, my vacations are for biking so it works out.
I have rented mopeds before whilst on non biking vacations - does that count?!?
17I tried this for the first time when I was in Reno, because I was there for work and only had a few hours to explore. I looked up a bike rental in the phone book in my hotel, I paid $15-20 (I forget) for 1.5 hours and quickly saw all of the Biggest Little City.
I love it, I
think its great, and I hope to rent bikes all the time now.
18I've never encountered a holiday place where I could do my own bike tour... I would definitely think about it next time!
