I have become obsessed with a bike Sarah Michelle Gellar has been photographed with recently. Not only is it an urban/cruiser bike, it's hot pink! The basket full of fresh looking veggies stole my heart too. Oh how I could picture myself riding to the farmers' market on this bike, with those veggies, in those heels... Wait, scratch the part about the heels, while they are cute, I prefer more sensible shoes while biking. Since these pics are from a photo shoot for Maybelline, the heels can be excused.

The bike however I must have. After much searching, and with a little help from Arthur (Sugar's very own on-site bike expert), I've located the bike. Want to learn about it? Then read more

The Electra Townie 3 ($390.00) reminds me of the first bike I ever had, just a little bigger and a little more updated. This adorable (and functional) bike offers a low center of gravity for full leg extension, which combine to increase comfort and pedaling torque compared to many comfort-category bikes. Also, if you are an unsure rider, this means your feet are able to lay flay on the ground if you ever feel totally unstable. The platform pedals require no special shoes (maybe you could even wear heels), and the full-length chainguard keeps dirt and oil off the legs of your pants so you can participate in bike to work day every day! damn, I would love to have one of these- they have them in some really nice colours ans styles too.
1How cute!
I would love to get a flowy sundress and big hat and just ride it around in circles.
2that is a great bike! how comfortable is the seat, though...that's the one think keeping me from riding my current one. my tush gets numb after only a couple of minutes!!
3What a cool bike and very affordable. Thanks for getting us the 411, Fit.
PurrtyKitty - sometimes it can take a week or two to get used to a bike seat if you haven't been riding. However don't overlook any numbness or pain, you may simply need a different seat. Terry is one manufacturer that produces a couple of bike seat styles for women. You might want to take your bike into a shop and try out some of these different seats before buying anything.
4I myself have that bike, in champagne beige. GORGEOUS, and guess what, the SEAT, is INCREDIBLE. Sooooooooooo comfy & cushiony - every time I ride that thing, I think to myself, "DAMN, my butt feels good!"
No exaggeration. It has 3 speeds, really easy to
shift. Also, the "flat-foot technology" is indeed helpful; you can just put your feet right down on the pavement, easy easy easy. You ride sitting upright instead of hunched over
uncomfortably, and just lah-dee-dah cruise around relaxedly around the neighborhood. I ride mine about once a week at a group ride here in Dallas. Everyone brings their "fun" bikes instead of
their "serious" ones, and the Electra Townie TOTALLY fills the bill. If you have the dough to buy one, buy one. You'll LOVE it!
(If anyone wants pics of it "in action" just email me.) Cheers. - LM
5Nice ride!!
She spoke on Conan last October about how she rides around NYC on her bike to go shopping, etc (she doesn't like cabs..bad accident as a kid).
BTW..that photoshoot isn't for Maybelline - it's for the October issue of Self magazine. Wish you wouldn't keep saying it's a Maybelline shoot.
6If you are shopping for beach cruisers, the electra is the way to go. My hubby and I bought ours in May and we live in flat sacramento so the three speed model does us right!! Now we find if it's a place we can't ride our bikes to-we don't want to go!! We love them!! The electra's a bit more expensive than some of the other brands out there but soooo worth it! They have a lower center of gravity due to the back wheel sitting a bit farther back than some of the other brands and therefore; less likely of me falling over! They are really great cruisers! Now I have to go ride!! Oh I have the betty model which I love b/c I don't see them as much as the other styles! Go check them out!
7Yeah those bikes were featured in Women's Health recently, and I just hink they're sooo pretty! I like the Daisy, with the flowers.
8Fit-- you should try to get one of these for a giveaway! So cute!
9That site has great bikes, can't wait to get one when I move back to NYC!
10Okay---I live in North Carolina and it's VERY hilly here around my neighborhood, so would this NOT be a good bike for me to get?
11Target also has a pink cruiser bike Roxy by Schwinn that is super cute (and easier on the pocketbook at $129)
12i love this bike too. but i have my own one, so buying another just cause it's pink is not a good idea for me.
13I just bought a pink Townie a few weeks ago! It's the most obnoxious thing I've ever owned (I'm not big on the barbie pink or the white details but whatever) but it's a great bike. It's lighter than a beach cruiser and hills do take a little more effort...still easier than a beach cruiser for hills. The seat is wide and designed for women's hips...my butt still hasn't gotten sore. I got it to save money on commuting and it's pretty much already paid for itself - haven't needed to fill the gas tank since. They're kinda pricey, but if you go to a bike store instead of buying a cheapo at Target, the bike shop guys/girls will hook you up and keep your bike running.
14Hi,
15I have a son who is an artist/sculpture. I designs and builds one of a kind bike. I think some of your readers might be interested. They are seriously cool! Right now they can be seen at

There is a film of them being ridden.
