If you haven't had the chance to get away for a weekend of camping, now is your chance. Most campgrounds require that you call ahead to reserve a campsite, so make your reservations now. Ask friends where they've camped to get recommendations. I love to get sites that are right on the water, so when you wake up in the morning you can take a quick dip.
Planning ahead for your trip will ensure that you don't forget anything. Make a list and be sure to get all your gear ahead of time. Pack for all kinds of weather, not just the weather you're hoping for. Also remember that you're in the woods, which means it may be a bit colder and much buggier, so don't forget the jeans, sweatshirt and bug spray. Also, don't forget the ingredients to make S'mores!
Here's what I like to pack:

Argos
Bric's
Ralph Lauren
plus SPF of course.
1i like a lot of your choices. i tend to go backcountry camping so worry a lot about weight. my stove is one of those that screw onto a fuel canister. these are good things for car-camping or not very long hikes.
2tdamjiwhat are your essentials for backcountry camping?
3I really want to take my son camping because I think it will be a great experience for him but I HATE HATE HATE camping. Hate it. This list will help make it more bearable. Thanks, Fit.
4raptinrainbows i made a list of my favorite backcountry camping stuff. Not all of it is really "Essential" but i love having fold up chopsticks!
5*note - I usually go backcountry camping in Summer to the Rocky Mountains in Alberta/BC so it tends to be quite cool and sometimes raining up there - thats why there's a bit of "warmer" stuff.
I didn't put in food, but here's my list:
My husband and I have a remote control lantern that we leave out on a table at night...that way if we have to get up in the middle of the night we can illuminate the area outside our tent before we get out. You've also got to bring tools- we bring a nice ax with that we can use to hammer in tent stakes and split logs for firewood. We also have a little coffee percolator that you can stick right in the fire for coffee in the morning (we can't live without it).
6I've never gone camping before, my idea of camping is staying in a cabin! Although it sounds kind of fun--maybe I should give it a try sometime.
7Im going camping for my FIRST TIME in a few days... (no im not thrilled about it)! Im more of a ritz or st. regis kinda girl... thislist was helpful! Ill let you know how it turns out!
8I love camping and hiking. In addition to all the things mentioned, I like to bring field guides to identify different plants, wildlife, birds, etc. I know it's dorky, but I like knowing what it is that I'm looking at!
9CAMPING IS REALY FUN YOU SHOULD PACK ANYTHING AND EVERY THING
