Figuring out what motivates you to exercise is often a hard journey, but when you finally figure it out, you'll be glad you took the time to do it. Maybe hearing about someone who lost hundreds of pounds motivates you. Or maybe exercising for a cause does. It doesn't always have to be life altering however, it could be as simple as looking at your calendar and being proud of yourself.
When I first started working out and was having a hard time finding my own motivation. My friend, who was a teacher at the time, suggested that I start putting stars on my wall calendar on the days I exercised. I know it sounds very elementary (yes, I use this with my girls and brushing their teeth - they love it too), but I began to look forward to seeing all the stars I've acquired by the end of the month glittering back at me. Want to know one of the best days of my life? When I had to go to the store to purchase more gold stars because I had gone through a pack of 200!
My husband currently uses the same type of method, but with giant red x's. While giant red x's never motivated me, I am glad he found what works for him.
Try it out and see if it works for you!

Awww, this is great!!! I have worked out consistently for about 8 years but maybe this will be a way to motivate my hubby!! Actually, come to think of it....I want some stars on my calender also! Thanks Fit!!!
I work at a fitness club and we play games like that and it really helps the ladies. I will pass this along to help them out at home!
So simple, yet will probably be very effective for me too. I feel silly for not thinking of it! LOL Thanks =)
I do the exact same thing. I bought some teacher reward stickesr that say " Good Job" Wow" "Nice" & "Way to go" and put in on my wall calander whenever I go to the gym.
I just make a ticker over at Tickerfactory. Each month I aim to exercise every weekday and count down the minutes on the ticker as the days go by.
Hahaha, this is a fab idea...this elementary teacher approves
I use Scooby Doo stickers! HEHEHE!
i love this idea. i've actually been doing something similar by jotting down my workouts (run, spin, gym, weights, etc.) on my wall calendar in the kitchen. it actually feels like a tangible accomplishment every time i look at my calendar when i reach my goal of working out 4-5x a week.
I like that idea. Stickers are fun. I'll pick some up tomorrow or Wednesday.
aha really great idea thank you
I'm one of those people that find it very hard to motivate myself into exercising. I used to be very active into sports and playing ultimate frisbee, but somewhere along the way I lost interest in doing those things and packed on some weight. I feel bad about it because I don't feel as good as I had been when I was active. But I don't know what to do to get me motivated. This sticker idea seems like it'd be a good way to start.
I put little F’s (fitness) on my calendar every time I exercised. It’s motivating, if feel achieved when I can write an F down and it’s also a nice way to keep a check on it when I didn’t exercised for a while. But I bet it’s more fun with stickers and stars, I may look out for those next time I go shopping. =) I think it’s also a great idea to motivate kids.

Ah I've been doing this since I started exercising in january - I have a little flip calender on my pc at work and every time I workout I circle the date in red. It's great to look back at the end of the month (or even to flip through the months) and see all the red circles
I love the idea! At the moment I'm writing a R on my calendar for 'running' and a S for 'strength training'. But stars sound better to me. I'm gonna purchase some today! Thanks Fit!!
Haha great idea! I'll try indeed!
Neat idea, thanks!
Thanks Fit, Lord know I need all the motivation that I can get!
very cool idea. I want to buy some stickers now! I"m going at my lunch break to staples!!!
That is such a great, happy idea! I have a Google calendar and I use two calendars: one for regular life and one for exercise/active events. They are colored green and purple. I love seeing alot of purple on my calendar!
OK - ummmm, I LOVE this idea!
it's true! it is (oddly) great motivation! I just draw a star in green pen in my organiser on days i have exercised.
