What's a barbecue without a hot dog? If you're a meat eater, you'll most likely go for a regular beef hot dog, but if you're a vegetarian, you'll go for the alternative, the Tofu Pup.

If you're wondering how the two compare nutritionally, aside from the meatless one being cholesterol-free, then read more.

Wow, these two are like night and day. The Hebrew National Hot Dog has more calories, fat, cholesterol, and sodium than the Tofu Pup. Surprisingly, the Tofu Pup also offers more protein and even has a little fiber. If you've never tried this vegetarian dog, and you're trying to make your Summer BBQs a little healthier, I'd pick up a pack and give them a try. If you can get over the difference in consistency (it's a little spongier than a regular hot dog), than your heart and waistline will benefit greatly.
