July strikes me as the month for Summer travel. Hitting the road is a great way to see the country, but finding healthy food in the middle of nowhere can be a challenge. One of my must haves for this month is healthy and informed car snacking, and I have also told you about ways to keep the calorie count under 300 when fast food joints are your only option and you're watching your waistline. The convenience store has so much to offer, but you have to steer clear of the Doritos and Chips Ahoy. What's your healthy go-to convenience store snack?

I go for water or OJ, nuts, dried fruit, or tortilla chips,
1Gerber baby food puffs are only 150 calories for the whole container, and they last a while. I have been finding Turkey Jerky more and more these days.
2Nuts and granola. But I usually stock up at a grocery store before heading on the road, so I don't have to pay an arm and a leg. That way I can also bring apples.
3nuts, pretzels, juice, cheese
4Jerky or protein bars or protein drinks like Muscle Milk (the reduced fat/cal version).
5Chex Mix, fruits, veggies, granola/cereal bars, Sun Chips...
6I always bring food with me too like apples, nuts, dried fruits, pretzels and bottles of water. I guess if I were to pick up something at a convenient store it'd be a granola bar.
70 cal. flavored water/Powerade if you want something fruityto drink.
8MLH1 they are great, arent they???
97-11 has good kashi granola bars.
10I like to pack 100 calorie packs and strawberry twizlers!
11Bananas and apples!
12Nuts, Clif Bars, and V-8 juice.
13I usually go to the grocery store before going on a long trip because c-stores are always so expensive. But I find that Kwik Trip usually has good fruit and veggies in little containers. That along with some little string cheeses and turkey jerky is usually really satisfying on a long trip.
14Baked Lays, Kashi bars, and water... I would steer clear of anything else!
15Sun chips, protein bars, and bananas.
16Oh, and string cheese. 7-11 actually has some decent options now that I think about it. The other day I saw containers of cut-up fruit, and they have yogurt.
17Are you guys familiar with Wawa? They're a NJ/PA thing, and they have some of the best healthy options. Apples and peanut butter, carrot sticks, cheap made to order salads (bigger than Saladworks for about half the price), and excellent coffee. Sure they have the usual crap no one should put in their body, but its a great option when you're on the road.
18emily violet: You mean South Jersey, and south east coast in general. The first one I ever saw was in Virginia. I've never seen one in PA.
19Tidalwave: Check out Wawa, PA. Its where their corporate/dairy headquarters are.
