One thing that a lot of us may do (me included) is thinking that since we go to the gym a few days a week, we don't need to be as active in our daily lives. I will be the first to admit that on days when I go to the gym, I drag my feet when it comes to going on a walk with the family after dinner and what's my excuse? Well, because I went to the gym that day, of course -- Seems even more backwards when I say it out loud.
One thing to keep in mind is that if you go to the gym for one hour four days a week, it still only adds up to four hours a week. There are many more hours in the week to be active than just four. It is fabulous that you're making the effort, especially since that's more than most people can say, but keep in mind that we exercise to enhance our general lifestyle. Thinking that a few hours a week of exercise means you no longer need to stroll around your local farmers market on Saturday afternoons is a big mistake because you may miss out on some amazing experiences (not to mention even more calories burned). So try enjoying both -- Along with officially exercising, continue being active in your daily life.

What a great article. I walk everday for an hour, but I don't consider that my activity. My daily walk is something I do everyday to stay fit. In addition I try to take yoga for fun a couple days a week, take evening walks with my family, hike and stroll with my daughter on the weekends. It makes the work I do every day seem more bearable if I know it's making me stronger and I'm able to speand more quality time with the people I love!
1very interesting!
2This makes a good point! I like how you describe your activities, Chikeebabe. That's sweet that you take time to spend with your family in a healthy way!
3I do go a little easier on myself on workout days, but I don't take it to the extreme -- like refusing to walk up one flight of stairs (hello co-workers, we're only on the second floor!) and taking the elevator. Sheesh.
