I don't know about you, but at least weekly in my office, someone sends out an email about some delicious food in the kitchen, whether it's freshly baked muffins or a box of See's candy. Getting instant food alerts can be very tempting, but indulging every time could sabotage your healthy eating efforts. One strategy is allowing yourself to give into just one temptation a week, but what if you're on the fence about whether to indulge in the latest treat?
Try this trick: when the email goes out, wait 30 minutes to an hour to go check out the smorgasbord. If the food is still there when you arrive, let that be your treat for the week. If it's all gone — and we all know that free food goes pretty fast in an office! — then you've just practiced some accidental willpower.

Ha, you don't even have to TRY to be tardy for treats at our lab. We don't send out emails when there are treats; it's pretty much word-of-mouth. All you have to do is take your break 5 minutes later than everyone else does and BAM!...you miss out on all the treats.
At my old job, we had "Donut Day" on the first Wednesday of every month. At 9:30 sharp, 12 dozen donuts would show up in the employee lounge and by about 9:45, there were about a dozen left and most of those were either bitten off of or some kind that no one liked. Seriously, from 9:30 to 9:45 the place was like vultures on a carcass...absolutely insane!
1Oh lord FitSugar, how did you possibly know that today was pizza party day? I got all excited too, I'm usually the first one to come running when there is food.
2I like getting those emails because then I know where the goodies are & therefore what part of the office to avoid. I'm in big trouble if I accidentally wander up to a cake.
3We always have treats in our department and they're always displayed on an endtable ... impossible to miss. Even other departments have commented on our cake consumption! Love it.
4Office food is typically the only food I can psych myself out of since I know it's been picked over already and I think "I can do better than this." I do indulge when it's something special the building has sent up to just my suite and it's only a handful of people sharing as opposed to 50 or so.
