Women get pregnant and gain weight. Then they have the baby and have to lose the weight. Celeb moms just seem to do so at an alarmingly quick rate. We read tales of Naomi Watts simply using breastfeeding to get back to her pre-baby weight in a matter of weeks, and Jessica Alba bouncing back in record time. This, however, is not the reality for most women.
European healthcare officials are trying to add some common sense to the conversation about losing the baby weight. For most women it takes three months to a year to lose the weight, and it is important to do so. While breastfeeding can help burn calories and help new moms shed pounds, many new mothers cannot lose weight because they are breastfeeding. The body holds on to excess fat to ensure the mom has enough energy/calories to produce milk for the baby. Common sense tells us it is easier to lose the baby weight if you don't gain excessive amounts while pregnant — there is no real need to eat for two. Since the vast majority of new moms are without a personal trainer, a personal chef, and a nanny — common elements of a celeb's life — losing the baby weight will take some time. Instead of embarking on a crash diet to drop pounds, it is best to eat a healthy and balanced diet, while increasing your fitness level at a reasonable rate. Slow and sustained weight loss is the best approach, and a new mom who is cutting too many calories is a cranky new mom.

How do you even have time to eat?
1I gained 30 pounds with both of my daughters, and I lost every ounce in less than six days after having each daughter. BUT I did not have the tone I did pre-pregnancy, and I had C-Sections both times, and after major surgery you don't feel like eating. I think the pressure to be stick skinny minutes after having a baby is disgusting!
2good advice (even for non-pregnant women)--it's repulsive to me when you hear celeb moms say they just lost the weight from running around and lifting their little kids. that's bullsh*t--they lost it the way they were skinny in the first place. losing weight is difficult for single people, I can't imagine how much more dedication it must take for new moms.
3It is really annoying when you see a celeb give birth and then a week later they're back in their skinny jeans. I don't even have kids and I can't lose weight that fast!
4Another reason to never have children. It would really hurt my self-esteem and identity to have my figure wrecked.
5I've chosen not to have children as well (for a number of reasons) and this would be one of them. My sister had lost all but about 10 lbs of her baby weight at 7 months postpartum and then she got pregnant again, lol. She told me that the celebrities that say that they lost all the weight by "breastfeeding and Pilates" are totally lying because she said you have to eat quite a bit when you breastfeed so the baby gets enough milk. Celebs that lose their baby weight that fast do it by working out and cutting down on their calories. I don't know if many of them actually breastfeed, but if they do they must eat the bare minimum of calories needed to do so.
I think if I were a new mom, I'd want to lose my baby weight but I would also want to bond with my new baby...you have the rest of your life to lose 20 lbs; you don't have those first 5-6 months of your baby's life again.
