I invited a friend over for dinner the other night, and after eating our salads, I went to clear her plate and saw a big pile of green peppers. "Not a fan, huh?" I said. She patted her belly and said, "They don't agree with me." Apparently, many people share the complaint that green peppers are tough to digest. They say this green veggie makes them gassy. If this sounds familiar, keep reading.
Green peppers are actually picked unripe, and when you eat any fruits or veggies that haven't quite reached their prime yet, they can be tough to digest. So if you've noticed that green peppers cause you tummy troubles, just replace them with red, orange, or yellow peppers, since these are fully ripened.

I love green peppers but I'd prefer red bell peppers they are tastier but more expensive
why
is that?
1I don't really like green peppers (though I never noticed digestive issues), so I stick to red ones.
2That's fascinating actually. Thanks.
3interesting thanks!
4ugh, peppers make me feel SO sick! I used to love the way they tasted but I can't eat them at all anymore.
5this doesn't happen to me, but it happens to my mom. I loooove green peppers, but she hates them! She says cucumbers also make her really gassy - any ideas as to the reasons for that?
6very interesting! thanks
7did not know that. thanks!
8So.. I wanted to grow some peppers a while ago so I was reading about them and I think I know why the green was are less expensive. If you pick a pepper from the plant while it's green, the plant will grow another pepper in its place. If I recall correctly, if you let the pepper develop to yellow or red then pick it, another pepper won't grow there. I think that's right. It definitely takes longer for a plant to grow a red or yellow pepper.
9This explains a lot. Green peppers make me feel horrible but not red and yellow--although I like the flavor of green more. I usually make one green and one red and this helps to manage the bloat.
