If you have just survived another manic Monday, it is time to de-stress. Just like a morning ritual helps you wake up on the right side of the bed, a relaxing, postwork routine can help you unwind in the evening. Your ritual can be as simple as changing your clothes, stowing your briefcase in your bedroom closet, or washing your face. Preferably your ritual should be something healthier than pouring yourself a stiff drink. These small acts can help put a period on the end of your workday so you can get to the tasks at hand, like cooking a healthy dinner, taking your pooch for a long walk, or teaching your wee ones how to bike. Do you have a routine to help you chill out at the end of your workday? Do share.

Make Up For Ever

When I get home from work, I fix myself a drink and chill out reading a magazine for a good half hour to unwind and stop thinking about work. It really helps me transition from work to home.
1When I get home I get changed into house clothes (trackies and jumper - it's winter here) and start to think about what to cook for dinner. I find cooking relaxes me and when I sit down to eat - I've forgotten about my day at work
2Going to the gym after work, punching a boxing bag, and lifting weights really helps me destress!
3most of my shifts finish between 11pm and 1am so when I get home I'll take a hot shower then fix myself honey tea and just lay out on the couch listening to music or watching tv or a movie till my feet stop aching...
4I get home around 4:30, and immediately change into sweatpants and a t-shirt, and then read all my gossip sites and blogs for an hour or so. It's my favorite way to decompress.
5Whenever I get home, I put on my lounge apparel (sounds fancy, doesnt it?) drink tea, and watch something fun like the simpsons, family guy, spongebob... I'm a fun person, haha. But it calms me. Or I watch TCM, which is my favorite... love them oldies.
6First, go to the gym. Then when I get home I do my computer/email routine. Strange that the internet helps me relax, but I think it's because it's a routine and it gets my mind off of work.
7I immediately change out of my work clothes and into comfy sweats. Then I usually start right up on supper because I'm tired and ready for some yummy food.
8My ultimate relaxation in the evening comes from surfing my favorite websites and blogs on my laptop, while laying on the couch... Sounds lazy, but I usually don't spend my days sitting still at all and keep pretty active.
Some nights I'll take a nice hot bath. THAT always relaxes me.
I also immediately change out of my work clothes. Sometimes I'll run a bit on the treadmill or do a yoga video. If I'm really hungry, I'll make dinner first. I love cooking. I usually don't use the computer at home b/c I'm pretty sick of it after being on one for 8 hours at work. But watching a show or reading a book is always nice.
9A great class at the gym is the perfect de-stresser!! Great music also helps...
10I usually sit on my patio in complete silence! I work as a receptionist and listen to people talk all day long. I am a people person so I really enjoy talking but it's nice to have complete silence for a few minutes.
11Definitely chilling on my bed with my laptop is the best way to wind down. I leave the TV off and have quiet. I check out my email and my favorite websites.
12I drop off my bag, change into my workout clothes (for my after dinner sweat session), pull up my hair, and wash my face. I do one final check of the computer (email, facebook, etc) and turn it off for the night. Then I pull out what's for dinner and slowly prepare the food while I talk to my husband about our days.
13Either watch some sleezy reality TV or catch up on my favorite blogs.
