I have worn reading glasses since my freshman year of high school but was still shocked to learn that 81 percent of Americans wear corrective lenses of some sort.

I guess being the window to the soul requires some outside support. Keeping tabs on the health of your vision is important. So I want to know . . .

I wear both glasses and contacts. Please put an option for us too :
:
1I wear glasses.. I love them.. I always get the weirdest pair or custom ones... People compare me to a cartoon character because they identify me as the girl with curly hair and glasses... and any woman with dark hair and glasses I automatically look like, according to people I know. Such as Tina Fey and Sarah Palin... although I look nothing like either one of them... oh well.
Oh, and I hate contacts.
2Both!
3I also wear both! It was a sad day when I learned that I needed reading glasses on top of my contacts. Basically, I was in bifocals at 28.
On the plus side, I LOVE playing around with funky reading glasses frames! So cheap and fun!
4I wear both. I got my first pair of glasses when I was 3 years old. Contacts when I was 12.
5laser eye surgery!
6I wear both contacts and glasses. I voted contacts though since I wear those more than I wear my glasses.
7I wear both - I'm grateful for frames that I like and look good on me because I had horrendous ones when I was younger but now if I need to give my eyes a break from my contacts, I don't feel as self-conscious and just think of my glasses as a fashion accessory (even though I'm practically blind without them on!).
8I wear both, but I wear my glasses more because my optometrist advised wearing contacts as little as possible. Really I just wear them if I have a special function to attend and don't want to worry about cleaning smudges off my lenses.
9Had laser eye surgery about 4 years ago. The best money I ever spent on myself! Before that it was contacts.
10Glasses. My allergies make it almost impossible for me to wear contacts for more than 4 hours.
11I've always sort of wanted glasses, but my eyes are fine. I just think they're sexy in a smart way.
12I wear reading glasses when I nestle down to a good book for a while, or I am working with documents, or stuck behind my computer too long.
13i wear both, contacts more. I need to get prescription sunglasses then I could wear my glasses more.
14When I was younger, I wanted contacts, I was tired of glasses. It seems I have a smaller head/face, so buying glasses is always a task, and then they never stay put.
My wonderful cousin, who my mother seems to use as a baseline for what I should and shouldn't be doing, had them, and managed to get them stuck in his eye or something. No contacts for me!
A few years later, she starts harassing me as to why I don't get contacts... Sheesh.
15I've been wearing glasses since I was 5 years old. No joke - I woke up one day and totally couldn't see anything. Everybody thought I was either lying or sick when I complained. Fortunately I didn't have to go very long without corrective lenses!
I tried contacts in 8th grade, when everybody else was. Unfortunately my eyes were so bad I could only use hard contacts. Seriously irritated my eyes. To this day, I haven't found an optometrist or an opthalmologist that can give me soft corrective contacts. So I switched back to glasses, and I'm not complaining. I like picking out new styles each year - the only annoying thing is how much my lenses cost!
Though I've been saving up for the last 4 years for laser eye surgery...I had no idea how expensive it was to get it done by a trusted professional; one guy I know almost paid $6,000, but got it half off b/c he was involved in a follow-up research study. But if I'm going for surgery, I want the best doctors working on my eyes, right?!
Someday...I just hope my eyes don't get too bad!
16I use both, mostly contacts though.
17I wear both. On days with no sleep, I definitely wear glasses to hide the darkness.
18I'm lucky that I have good vision.
19Reading glasses only, to rest my eyes when I have to work at a computer. I freaking love wearing glasses though, I was so excited when I found out I needed them when I was 14!
20I would wear both but I can never find frames that I like. My entire childhood is filled with images of me and horrible frame after horrible frame. I finally got contacts a few years ago, and I love them. Sometimes I'll pull my backup frames out, but it's rare.
21Both.
22Both
23There should really be a "both". I mean, in general I wear contacts, but you're not supposed to leave them in for more than like, 10 hours. So really most people who wear contacts own glasses too, and wear them infrequently, like around bedtime.
24I wore glasses for five years until I finally got the nerve to try contacts. I'm on my fourth day of wearing them. I'm glad I finally got them, though it was super weird to put something on my eyeball. I'll definitely still wear my glasses though- I just ordered another funky pair.
25I only wear glasses while working on the computer at work... Otherwise I don't need them yet!
26So many people wear both contacts and reading glasses. Bausch & Lomb makes an amazing multi-focal contact lens for this very reason! You should check it out if you are tired of wearing reading glasses!
27am, what about both? most people wear both if they have sight problems. i wear contacts when i go out of the house, glasses inside. sometimes if it's cloudy i'll wear glasses to the groceries, but contacts if it's sunny so i can put my shades on.
28I wear contacts, but I sometimes wear my glasses to give my eyes a break. I prefer the contacts though because with glasses I have limited peripheral vision. I am seriously blind without my contacts. I've needed corrective lenses ever since I was 18 months old and growing up, I think my parents always picked THE DORKIEST glasses ever. At least now I have the option of somewhat attractive frames so I don't look like a total geek when I wear my glasses.
29Glasses. I do have contact lenses as well, but I've been really bad about wearing them. It's just such a hassle getting them in and out, and my eyes start to get really tired after a few hours. It's also a bit disconcerting seeing myself that clearly without glasses, heh. My eyes always look strange and sunken when I have my contacts in.
My current glasses are much nicer than the ones I had when I was little, but I wish they weren't so expensive. I heard somewhere recently that glasses are actually quite cheap in the States and the UK? In NZ, they're very expensive. My last pair cost over $800.
30I wore glasses starting at eight years old & contact lenses for most of the rest of my life. But I had PRK about three years ago, and I figure I've got about a decade to go before I'll need reading glasses.
31Whoa Wild Magelet! $800 for a pair?? I don't know if/how NZ dollars translate to US dollars, but that's a ridiculous amount of money to spend on something you NEED. They say you're supposed to have your eyes checked every year, and if the prescription changes, you need new glasses. I can't imagine having to plunk down $800/year for a condition I can't control! Do you happen to have vision insurance? It's been ridiculously helpful in bringing the costs down.
My lenses, because my eyes are pretty bad, have to be specially made, so that's where the majority of the cost comes from [~$150/lens]. But I need good frames for the lenses, and those are usually brand name, so they cost a bit. We go to chains like EyeMasters and LensCrafters where they're a bit cheaper...the most I've ever paid for a complete pair of glasses was $300, and that was because they were replacements not covered by my insurance.
32both option!
33I used to wear glasses. I got glasses when I was only 6 but at the age of 18 I didn't need them any more. I have wore two types of contacts before (hard and soft) but my eyes just couldn't handle it. They got swollen and infected and I looked like a puffer fish. Both my dad and aunt aren't able to wear contacts either so I think there is some sort of allergy in the family. I wouldn't mind it if I had to wear glasses again though, it suits me.
34my eyes are fine but i always wanted to wear glasses to shout out and make a statement about my self n stead of being boring
