No stranger to the scrutinizing public eye, Jon Gosselin — the daddy half of Jon and Kate Plus 8 — has been put through the emotional wringer lately. I'm not here to pass judgment on his family matters, but to point out his not-so-healthy snack: a Vitamin Water and what looks to be a knock-off version of Twinkies. While the Vitamin Water is fortified with vitamins, it also contains its fair share of sugars. The sponge cake treat probably has no nutritional value. Are these two items similar to foods you choose when facing emotionally hard times? It's common to reach for sugary treats and carbs for a quick rush of serotonin, the feel-good brain chemical. I'm wondering about you . . .

Cheer
They're Tastykake Butterscotch Krimpets! I think Tastykake is a Philadelphia-area brand. I've never seen them anywhere else. They're delicious though!
I never eat bad . . .when I have ice cream or cheesecake or something it's usually because I'm happy and we are going out on a fun date or celebrating or something. Not to say I don't eat sweets, I do, but I do that when I'm happy. When I'm stressed I eat less not more.
I used to but I've tried to stop and I'm getting better at it.
I don't think there's a correlation for me. I eat poorly from time to time, but not especially when stressed.

When I'm stressed...I eat everything. Typically anything carby like lots of toast.
I like lots of carbs and cheese when I'm stressed. Those are my comfort foods.
When I'm stressed I stop eating. I really don't care for sweets if I do its usually a bite of chocolate cake.
Carbs mostly. Pasta, bread, etc. And lots and lots and lots of chocolate. :-s Not a good thing.
I actually exercise more and tend to lose my appetite a bit.
Sometimes I do but it's rare.
And I know Jon Gosselin loves his kids but he should not live in almost complete Hell with Kate. That woman is just terrible for her age.
yes, because i generally eat whatever i want to eat when i want to eat it, but i try to keep it in moderation and exercise it off. i have eaten more junk when i'm stressed but i try to work it off in the gym so i don't gain too much.
I tend to not want to eat at all when I'm stressed (no appetite, even little amounts of food make me feel queasy), but the moment the stress is over I binge because I suddenly realize I'm so hungry!
nooo. that just makes me more stressed!
Yes, I eat a lot of chocolate and ice cream and drink energy drinks...it's really not good.
I used to be a stressed emotional eater but am so much better about this kind of behaviour these days. When I eat foods with too many calories or fats these days I know it and make sure to savor them, and they better be delicious and not just crap food.
sometimes. once in a while, when i'm stressed i tend to get an "eff it" attitude and eat anything and everything. Then I regret it and feel even more stressed! so now i try to go for a run (sprints!) to burn up some of that anxiety.
You betcha. I'll chocolate, ice cream, popcorn, etc. However, I've learned to manage it a bit by relying on chocolate-y protein bars, 100-cal. pack popcorn, and Frapp. Lights. SEriously, those three things are lifesavers. There was a time when I stopped stress eating entirely and stuck to a set diet without a problem, but I cannot seem to do that anymore! I wouldn't have the extra 10 lbs. I do if I didn't stress eat.
guilty as charged
i tend to over-eat when im stressed/unhappy...n not eat much when im happy
yes, i do which makes me MORE stressed. i was anorexic as a teenager and when i got stressed, i was the complete opposite. while i don't care to be anorexic again, and it's totally not health, i wish i could tap back into a little bit of that person i used to be to overcome stress eating. where did she go?
Yes, I am and it's horrible. When you're impulsive and you're stressed, if you feel like eating an entire pizza, you'll eat an entire pizza. It helps momentarily but then it ends up making you feel worse.
Totally. Yesterday I had a really stressful day, and I came home to wine gums and peanut butter m&ms. That was rare for me, but I realized I'm totally an emotional eater and stress really exacerbates it.
Guilty, chocolate and carbs are my downfall when I'm stressed and/or upset
I actually find that eating right and working out helps me with my stress. If I eat junk food, I get more stressed out than before.
oh god ,, YES ! I just did yesterday . . .
I'm with cmd (#2). I like to eat sweets when I go out with girlfriends or something, and (from my history of anorexia) when I'm stressed I eat less.
If I'm stressed because of deadlines and hurrying, I do a little bit worse. I'm more to resort to frozen dinner or grab fast food. Still, I choose reasonable things, and I don't binge on junk.
Stress makes me eat faster.
I find it comforting that others eat when stressed like I do. Its something that I am working on.
P.S. I would love to try the Tastykakes
The more stressed I get, the less I eat.
Yeah, I find I have to really plan ahead and put safeguards in place if I'm to survive a stressful time while maintaining good eating habits, otherwise it all goes out the window because I can't handle it all!
