Suffering from dry eyes and blurry vision, major league baseball player Brain McCann, catcher for the Atlanta Braves, was recently outfitted for glasses after having his eyes checked.

While most of us don't depend on our peepers to track incoming curve balls, we all rely on our eyes for just about everything. This is why it is important to have your eyes checked regularly. The American Optometric Association recommends that adults have their eyes checked at least every two years. Early detection with vision problems means corrective action is easier to make, and the health of your eyes can be an early warning sign of diabetes. If you are one of the 81 percent of Americans who wear corrective lenses, be they glass or contacts, make an appointment to have your eyes checked. Your eyes may have changed and correcting your prescription can save you a lot of headaches, and I mean that literally.

Coincidentally, I just set an eye appointment today.
1my (maternal) grandfather was an opthamologist and my (paternal) grandmother has volunteered in an ER for 30 years or so, so I've always grown up knowing that your health is important and preventative health is the way to go. check ups are crucial, and I get my eyes checked every year. especially since I work in an office where I am looking at a computer screen for 8 hours a day, it matters to me to keep my eye health a priority.
2I have to get my eyes checked every year because glaucoma runs in my family (my dad has it and his dad also had it). I also wear contacts and I have really bad vision, so I do have to get everything checked every single year. I think it's the people who don't have vision problems that tend to skip the doctor's visits because they figure that if they don't need glasses or contacts, they are immune to other eye issues. But EVERYONE needs to see the eye doctor, no matter what.
3Wow, he's cute! More on-topic: I lost my glasses 2 years ago and have been squinting ever since. I think it's long past time I head to the opthalmologist. Thanks for the reminder Fit!
4yea if I had insurance coverage I would
When I had coverage I went every year without
fail.
5I have had glasses since 1989 and my current script is almost 3 years old...I need new ones but of course, no insurance and no money. It sucks because I cannot see for crap now and it isn't comfortable.
it's funny that you post about this today. i'm actually going to the eye-doctor tomorrow morning. i had lasik a few years ago (ok 10+) and now my vision is crap again, so i figure that i need glasses. it's hard to be in a client meeting/presentation and not be able to read the screen.
6I get them checked every year or two, depending on how much money I have. When my current supply of contacts runs out it will be time for another one.
7I love Brian McCann! Its great to be an Atlanta girl and occasionally see him around town.
8BTW, he was fitted for glasses because something went awry with his eye surgery.
