Even for the most fitness-minded among us, honeymooning and exercising aren't necessarily a match made in heaven. It's hard to get motivated to exercise on vacation, especially after your wedding. But just because you're ditching your gym routine doesn't mean you can't balance your relaxation and indulgence with some sensible habits. Here are some tips for staying healthy even when you're over the moon.

- Schedule active activities. Probably the most obvious tip, but not to be forgotten. When planning your itinerary, consider tourism that will get you moving, whether it's a scenic hike or a bike tour. Staying beach-bound? Bring along some props, such as a Frisbee or paddleball set, which will engage you and your new mate.
- Explore on foot. If you're vacationing in a city, forgo taxis and transit for walking. As long as you make sure to stick to safe areas, walking is a calorie-burning way to feel good about your vacation indulgences, and it's a great way to see a city too.

- Choose indulgences carefully. Just because it's your honeymoon doesn't mean you should throw all caution to the wind. Think about what you most want to indulge in, and allow yourself one or two a day rather than pigging out every meal. Try to keep things in balance: if you have an extra piña colada at lunch, skip dessert at dinner.
- Walk it off. Even if you're not seeing a city on foot, consider taking a 45-minute walk after particularly indulgent meals. Research suggests that walking right after a high-fat meal can help reverse potential damage to your arteries.
- Explore the local bounty. Whether you're staying on a tropical island or in a European city, do some shopping at the neighborhood food markets. Picking up local produce, seafood, and other fresh foods will help you snack sensibly while experiencing local flavor.
- Share your suppers. It's tempting to eat everything on your plate while on vacation, since you can't take the leftovers home. So split an entrée with your newlywed to save both money and calories.
- Dine al fresco. If you're vacationing in a hot climate, eating outside may help you eat less. As opposed to being in AC, dining al fresco can make you crave more liquids and less food.

Or perhaps, on your honeymoon, you should do whatever it is that you most enjoy and want to do. Staying active is great, but unless you're doing something clearly unsafe, a week of indulgence is also perfectly fine.
1Ok, I love Fitsugar, but this is rediculous. A week or so of being lazy with your new husband is not going to harm you. If anyone feels they need to be on their game everyday of their lives, or they'll lose their health, I feel sorry for them. It's ok to live.
2Ummm, the only active activity I did on my honeymoon was indoors! And trust me, I stayed plenty healthy!
3man, I'm glad to see the comments on here so far. what I did on my honeymoon was drink and eat ALL the things I had been putting off before the big day and I enjoyed every single bit.
4Gosh, this is so annoying, fitsugar! Seriously, a honey moon is so not about exercising or watching your food intake. I totally agree with all the other comments..this is beyond ridiculous.
5I'm a pretty big health nazi most of the time (which isn't always good but I'll admit it) However... when I went on my honeymoon, these things were the last thing on my mind. We indulged.. a lot; and you know what? We had a heck of a good time, an awesome honeymoon and neither one of us had any regrets. My advice is just to have a blast on your honeymoon and worry about all that other stuff when you get home. If you can't indulge even on your honeymoon then when can you ever? Live a little.
6I'm with doogirl on this one. Include lots of heart-healthy, physical sex.
7Hey, let's not hate on FitSugar completely! I had a GREAT honeymoon and we were very active and had a lot of fun. Every morning we went for a nice trail run and we went on lots of hikes and we went canoeing. Once we went fishing and caught some little panfish that we grilled for dinner. And we had LOTS of great sex, too. Not everyone actually LIKES to just sit around sipping Mai-tais on their honeymoon, you know.
8OR you could, you know, just enjoy being on your HM.
9I can't enjoy a vacation if I'm not working out. I just feel gross--especially if I'm eating a lot of delicious food and drinking lots of wine & cocktails. If I have to wear a bikini, I'm getting a run in before breakfast.
10We are hoping to go tropical, and I am totally looking forward to windsurfing, scuba & snorkeling, swimming & of course lounging by the pool/ocean. I fully plan on working out in the gym most days, just because I fully intend on enjoying alcoholic beverages & dessert whilst on my honeymoon!!!
hehe.
11I also intend to listen to doogirls advice too
You only get one honeymoon. If you don't want to workout don't workout.
12I just got back 2 days ago from my honeymoon in San Fran. We walked about 2-4 miles each day, shared meals and enjoyed some indoor fun as well. I couldn't go a whole week on restraunt food though, I caved and bought some overpriced fruit from a stand as well as a trip to Trader Joes. This girl needed some oatmeal and greek yogurt!!!
