A reader recently wrote in asking, between her two favorites, which was better: peanut butter or almond butter? The question of "better" might boil down to a sipmle question of taste, but like the reader, I enjoy the flavors of both.

I decided to do a side-by-side comparison of these popular spreads to see if they differ much nutritionally. If you're curious what you should be putting on your toast in the morning, read more.
This chart compares creamy unsalted versions of each nutty spread, and the percentages are based on a 2,000 calorie diet.
| 2 tbsp. peanut butter | 2 tbsp. almond butter | |
| Calories | 190 | 190 |
| Total Fat (g) | 16 | 16 |
| Saturated Fat (g) | 2 | 1.5 |
| Carbs (g) | 7 | 6 |
| Fiber (g) | 3 | 4 |
| Protein (g) | 8 | 7 |
| Calcium | 1% | 8% |
| Iron | 3% | 6% |
| Vitamin E | 14% | 40% |
| Folate | 6% | 6% |
Nutrition-wise, it looks like almond butter offers a bit more, especially in terms of vitamin E. I will continue to eat both, and I hope you do too, since both nut butters offer a good source of protein and a fair amount of fiber. Remember, a serving of each is only two tablespoons, so watch those portions.

They're both sooo delicious. But I think peanut butter will always have my heart.
1I absolutely love almond butter. I've been mixing both Pb (my first love) and AB on my toast in the morning. Divine.

love them both...nom nom nom
3I love almond butter! I tried it for the first time a few weeks ago. I mixed it into some strawberry yogurt--so good! I think i got that idea (almond butter-yogurt dip) off of fitsugar actually.
Almond butter is also one of the few foods I prefer raw. I bought a jar of it this weekend, the Maranatha kind, but I was disappointed to discover that it was all smooth and dark brown. The kind I first tried was thick, grainy, and lighter in color. That must have been the raw stuff. Mmm! But, I'm not complaining, the big jar I got was only $6 from Costco, and from what I hear thats a bargain.
4Well peanuts aren't actually a nut so....
5Almond Butter ftw!
6I really like the kind you can grind yourself, like at Whole Paycheck.
I really like both too. Almond butter is much more difficult for me to find (and, as a result, more expensive), but I appreciate the extra little nutritional boost I get from it over peanut butter every now and again.
7I like almond butter better. I make it at home and it's super tasty, plus you get to control how much salt and sugar you want to put in to make it tastier.
8I love almond butter. If you like the taste of pb but want the benefits of almond butter try Barney Butter. Tastes like roasted peanuts but is soooo much better!
9almonds are actually a nut, either. they're also a seed. i've heard that peanut butter should be avoided because it contains a mold of some kind. heard this on Dr. Asa Andrew's radio show.
10mmm... cashew butter!
11I can't eat plain almond butter - it just doesn't taste that great to me. I like to use it in raw fudge though. Peanut butter is my favorite.
12Peanut butter vs. almond butter, that is
the question. Well, I like peanut butter and prefer it in candies or my thai sauces.
I very rarely eat peanut butter sandwiches,
as I ate so many of these as a child.
The natural peanut butter is so bland but
healthier than Jippy and other store brands.
I also eat almond butter. It too is very bland in its natural state. It is more difficult to find and usually calls for an out of the way trip to the health food store to find it. So, therefore I don't eat it often.
I notice some people say they don't eat these butters in their natural- plain state.
Have no fear, just simply add a little honey,
stevia, agave or your favorite sweetner to them to give them a more pleasant taste.
Try these and you will love the taste!
13Great side by side comparison! Love Trader Joe's crunchy almond butter. Thanks for your article!
