On the heels of the good news that cancer deaths are down comes America's grade on health — a C-minus. It may be a passing grade, but just barely.
Although we all know eating well and exercising regularly are key to good health, as a nation we are seriously slacking. One surprising statistic was that smoking rates had barely budged in 18 years. I find this shocking because quitting smoking is the best thing a person can do for their health. Fitness-wise, as a nation we are exercising less and eating worse. Only 26 percent of the participants from the rather large pool used for the poll ate five or more servings of fruit and veggies daily. I found that number rather disheartening.
I am curious about you all and if you are in the minority, part of the 26 percent, who eat an average five servings of fruits and veggies daily.

Now that it's summer I eat a big fruit salad for breakfast, and then eat my big green salads for lunch and dinner! I make it my goal to eat at least 5 servings of fruits and veggies, and I make sure to eat as many colors as possible too!
i definitely get more than 5 servings a day...i eat fruits and veggies with every meal. fruits are especially good this time of year...how can you not?
Where's the 'more than 5' button? I LOVE my fruits and veggies and usually get closer to 8 servings a day.
I definitely get more than 5 servings on most days and try to eat a variety of fruits and veggies to max out their nutritional benefit.
Not every single day, some days are just crazy. But I would say 5 days a week I eat more than 5 so I think it evens out.
Seriously, where's the "more than 5 per day" button?! I definitely get between 8 and 10 per day. My idea of a fantastic snack is an apple with almond butter, or just some yummy carrots or grapes, and I always always have a big serving of veggies with dinner (grilled now that it's summer, yum!). Add in at least one serving of each for lunch, and a fruit for breakfast, and I could be a rabbit
About 5-6 servings a day.
usually one .. i'll try to eat more !
An easy way to get fruits/veggies is to make a smoothie for a meal/snack. Just bust out the blender and throw in some berries, a banana, and a handful of spinach. You won't even be able to taste the spinach, I promise! Of course you can sub whatever fruits you have on hand and if you want something more filling add some protein powder.
fruits and veggies are ALL i eat - so i know that i get more than 5 each day
Where's the "more than 5 servings" option? On average, I probably get something like 10 servings of veggies and fruits a day. I don't know how people can eat so few fruits and veggies and not feel crappy all the time. My husband eats something like MAYBE 2 servings a day if he's lucky and I'm always on his case to get him to eat more than that.
I have some really good days with more than five servings a day (about 3x/week) but it isn't 7x/week. I need to become more consistent.
i eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. for example, its not unusual for me to eat an entire pound of broccoli with dinner. that's like four servings right there!
I sure do eat at least 5 servings of fruits and veggies per day. We have veggies [sometimes in two forms!] every night for dinner, and I snack on frozen and fresh fruits throughout the day. They're awesome snack food!
I loooooooove fruits and veggies, so I know I get my servings.
It depends on the day !
Vegetables are amazing! I eat SO MANY EVERY SINGLE DAY! I don't know HOW anyone hates veggies!!!! Not only do I love them because they taste yummy but... they are also so very healthy for you!!
