If you thought NFL cheerleaders were putting the "skin" in pigskin, you haven't seen anything yet. For years, viewers could pay to watch the Lingerie Bowl, a Super Bowl halftime special featuring all-female teams playing football in their bras, underwear, helmets, shoulder-pads, and knee-pads. Thanks to the sports-marketer Mitchell Mortaza, the idea will be taken to new heights when the Lingerie Football League (LFL) launches on Sept. 4.
The 10-team semi-professional league will feature a 20-week season in venues that accommodate thousands of ticket-holders. According to Mortaza, the teams are selected based on beauty, weight, and athletic ability. He said, "You have to be beautiful. We make no bones about it," and mentioned an unofficial weight limit of 120-125 pounds. But the league's founder also encourages the women to play hard, advising, "If you prance, you're gonna get killed."
One league-hopeful says the premise isn't sexist and remarked, "They say it's degrading, but it's not. We don't just stand there looking pretty. We hit pretty hard." Check out the photos of these ladies trying out for the league, and then tell me, what do you make of this all-women football league that happens to require a lingerie uniform — is it cool or not?

I vote Cool. But as cool as it is, I wouldn't go out of my way to watch it. If it ends up on TV while I'm walking past, I might stop for a few minutes to watch it.
1Yet another way for women to degrade themselves......
2How can the "league-hopeful" say this is not degrading? How hard they hit has nothing to do with the fact that this whole "bowl" is an excuse for men to watch half-naked women run around and run into each other. If it was really about the sport and not the skinny, scantily-clad bodies, then there would be no weight restrictions and the uniforms would be a little more practical.
3Horribly sexist and harmful. What kind of message is this sending to young women who enjoy playing sports? That they can only play "seriously" (let's face it, Lingerie Bowl isn't really about women playing football except as a novelty) if they dress scantily and pander to the fratboy demographic? Disgusting.
4This is just disappointing. They are just random, disposable women who want to be objectified. I'm over it. I just feel like they make it harder for the rest of us who work hard to be seen as more than a pretty face.
5Sports are entertainment, and the athletes get paid extremely well to entertain. If they can make money by playing football in their underwear, more power too them. There might actually be a women's sports league (aside from beach volleyball) that gets a little attention.
6Nah, I never liked this
7All these women are always b*tching and complaining about how fake those kinds of women are and how its not right to have to try and live up to their standards which are impossible seeing as everyone is spray tanned made up for two hours has their hair done and work with a stylist, yet there are these women who obviously while confident dont have the amount of self respect i could scrape off of my shoe run around like hoe bags and make the rest of us look bad. Personally I think sex is far to over sold in todays society, and its starting to make me long for the days when seeing a bit of bra strap or something was just it for guys in the real world, now everyones suppossed to look like a pussycat doll, and we wonder why teen pregnancy and vinerial diseases are spreading like wildfire.
8how 'bout no?
9Sure its not degrading. Just like the Deal or No Deal girls are helping to shatter the glass ceiling.
10I think this is ridiculous. I agree that as women, we have the right to make money with our bodies, but call it what it is. Agree completely with Pibl, this is only one more way to teach young (and old) women that their only value is in their sex-appeal to a neanderthal class of men that prefers docility and stupidity. Women need to embrace sexuality as an intrinsic force and not allow it to be defined by outside factors.
11Just plain stupid.
12I have to be honest here, I'm tired of women complaining about sex appeal and "degradation". There is a harsh reality that women have to accept. Men love anything sexy. They are not going to change. If a company can market and sell something like this successfully then more power to them. If my husband wants to watch, I let him. I'm comfortable with myself enough to know that its all harmless fun. How is this anything different than all the voyeuristic gossip women love to read everyday, honestly?
13Shocker that a gossip site with it's readers being primarily fat huosewives would say this league is 'not cool'.
Based on the millions they draw in viewership and sell-out crowds the 'It's Cool' crowd is a lot bigger then indicated on this site...
Do some reporting Fit Sugar..and tell us how we can get season tickets???
14I'm all for women playing football, and even making the uniforms "prettier" but this is just PG playboy. and with the weight limit it makes no mention of height (a 5 foot women at 125 is a lot different than a 5'9" one). also if they were serious about making it a real sport they would be more interested in the women being strong etc (and their fore maybe heavier because of muscle). Also beauty has not place in sport, really. I ran cross country and track in college and honestly I think nearly all my teammate were beautiful when in normal clothes or dressed up, but after a race, when competing all but 2 of us looked awful (often red, with pain etched on our faces, sweaty, maybe bloody, and it's not uncommon to pass out or throw up after a race, not attractive, even if you looked like Giselle.)
15Anway.
cool. sorry.
16this is horrible. it would be hard to make the weight limit and not "get killed"
17so degrading and ridiculous. =/
I just wanted to say, Redqueen, you're not alone. People need to get over themselves and lighten up. I'm sure those women will be very well compensated, and they are there by choice. This isn't degrading or exploitation.
I have a very young daughter, and I hope she will grow up to be strong, confident, and brilliant. But I also want her to appreciate her own sexuality and not take herself too seriously.
18I'm shocked that there are people who don't find this offensive. It makes a mockery of the real women athletes. I have no problem with women prancing around in underwear, but don't call it football!
19Exactly, sourcherry. If this were a legit sport they'd be wearing clothes. Please, people
20Just not cool. There are *real* female athletes out there who deserve to be applauded, but these girls are a joke. Men have more than enough opportunities to ogle half-naked women - so they won't run out of softcore porn if/when the LFL disappears...
21I definitely went to high school with at least 3 girls shown in those pics!
Love Jim324's comment about readers being fat housewives. You know he's an overweight hubby needing to get kicks from the LFL cuz his wife won't give it to him.
I don't think it's degrading in the sense that these girls signed up for it. But I just don't think it's interesting or will catch on much. I'd rather see real athletes to be honest. And a couple of the girls I do know are athletic and fit in their everyday lives, it's just sad they got implants for this.
22Absolutely disgusting. These women are making real female athletes into a mockery and they aren't even playing a real sport. Now if they had pads and gear on, it'd be a different story, but women playing "football" in lingerie is just a little ridiculous.
23Oh, yeah, we're a bunch of fat housewives on a fitness site geared towards younger women.
I read a report by a Denver fitness/lifestyle writer who tried out on assignment and was very fit, pretty, very athletic (much more athletic than the other girls). The best athletes didn't make the squad, including the professionals, but the models did. http://www.denverpost.com/search/ci_11927296
24Don't see the big deal about this really. Its a form of entertainment. get over it, i guarantee you've seen worse.
25I'm a sixteen year old teenage girl (who is NOT fat) and I can honestly say this makes me really sad. Why is everyone so ready to take off their clothes these days? Where has the self respect gone. When I look back at what all the suffragettes went through, for THIS? Why doesn't the whole world just go naked, since we really are approaching that line soon.
26give me a break! NO!
27Pathetic.
