In my experience, it's not the burgers and hot dogs that do me in, it's the deviled eggs, chips, seven layer dips, and seven billion desserts. I approach it one of two ways: it's a one-time only thing, and I'd rather enjoy myself than stressing so I'll just eat what I want in moderation and not let myself skip the gym. But I can't do that on July 4th, because my birthday is the 3rd, so I've already had a one-time only cheat day. So instead I'll bring something good with me, like the Arnold's sandwich thin buns (so good and so good for you), or whole wheat hamburger buns. And these days at least one other person will be in the same boat, so you can definitely eat well without totally throwing yourself off.
Also, where I'm going you're way more likely to see a turkey burger than a tofu burger, I'm a little surprised with how specific this got there wasn't a breakdown for that.
1i think you got the fat grams wrong in the hamburger. the link you have to the nutrition database said 14g fat; 5 saturated.
2I get to go to work on the 4th, so no barbecue for me. I told my husband to save me some grilled peppers and onions and a grilled chicken breast so I can eat grill-out food when I get home.
3BBQ are sooo healthy imo, summer is usually the time I so much lbs because of of the activity and the grilled, healthful food.
I will usually have grilled chicken, or lean lamb kabobs with lots of veggies, tons of salad, corn on the cob (no butter), fruit salad, and popsicles.
4How is it that the cholesterol goes down with the cheeseburger with the fixings?
5Looks like a few mistakes were made.
I don't BBQ because I'm a vegetarian and the grill is covered in meat grease and juices (not veggie safe), but when my family has a BBQ, I enjoy veggie burgers or veggie dogs cooked on the stove. Sometimes I'll have a faux chicken burger cooked in the oven (Quorn brand), a Worthington Leanie, or a Morningstar Farms griller. The best part of the BBQ is the food selection... usually fresh fruit, chips, and dip. It's much healthier than fast food and most restaurant meals and it's a great time to spend time with the family
