I recently cut myself pretty badly while chopping veggies and when I went to my first aid kit to get some Neosporin, I realized I was all out.
So learn from my mistake and take some time this weekend to update your first aid kit and medicine cabinet. Throw out expired products and make sure you're stocked up on the necessities. I made a little checklist of some things you may need in case you get sick or hurt so read more.
- Antiseptic solution or towelettes
- Cotton balls
- Antibiotic cream such as Neosporin
- Bandages including band-aids and gauze
- Adhesive tape
- Latex gloves
- Instant ice packs
- Tweezers and a sterile needle
- Sterile eyewash, such as a saline solution
- Thermometer
- Anti-diarrhea medication such as Pepto-Bismol
- Anti-inflammatory such as Ibuprofen
- Pain reliever such as Tylenol
- Hydrocortisone cream

The problem with my first aid kit is that I have all those things, but they aren't all in the same place. If I cut myself, I have to dig through the drawer to find my Neosporin and alcohol and the band-aids are in the medicine cupboard. I should really get a box of some sort to contain everything so it's all in one place. It's probably not a bad idea to keep one in the garage too, just in case my husband cuts himself while he's out fixing cars.

2benadryl is a good thing to have on hand too, for mild allergic reactions...
3My problem is that they're all in the same place, but there's so much crap I'd have to dig through the free condoms and caffeinated gum to get to anything I'd need.
4I teach an outdoor boot camp each week. Nicks and bruises can be very discouraging to a participant so carrying a FIRST AID kit has proven to be very helpful.
