The Kind Diet book by Alicia Silverstone doesn't hit stores until Fall, but you don't have to wait until then to get a taste of her vegan tips. A common qualm about veganism is that meals are time-consuming, but this famous vegan implied that doesn't have to be true and said, "One of the recipes in my book is leftover nori (a type of seaweed) wraps. Anything in the fridge I want to use up, I shove into nori. It's delicious."
Alicia sells the perks of seaweed by saying, "It makes your skin look amazing and your hair really strong," but the benefits of including seaweed in your diet are more than skin-deep. The sea vegetable is an excellent source of essential minerals like iodine, vitamin K, B-vitamins, magnesium, iron, and calcium.
You can usually find packages of nori in the Asian food section of your supermarket. It comes in thin sheets, making it ideal for wrapping, and Alicia has shown us that it's not just for wrapping raw fish.

I heart brown rice and almond butter wrapped in nori with a little soy sauce. One of my fave backpacking meal treats.
1Kia, that sounds really really good. I wish we could find Nori here, but I am in a very rural, non-diverse area. Maybe I will have to take a look on one of my vacations!
2that picture is not very flattering...I'm sorry to say, but she looks horrible! she doesn't look like she's been eating nutritious food at all; she looks like she's been living on bread and water and 2 hours of sleep for a year...did she start graduate school or something?
3can't we find a better recent picture? as a spokesperson for healthy eating, I think she should look like that's what she's been doing.
LOL... did she start graduate school or something. Yep, that first semester will leave anyone looking like a zombie.
4This is an intriguing alternative to tortilla wraps. It doesn't exactly look delicious, but probably is, and I'll be trying it anyhow.
5hmmmmm.... definitely still a carnivore, but I'd try using nori. the health benefits sound intriguing
6@ anonymous - i didn't realize you had the ability to assess health by looking at someone's picture! wow what a skill it's SHOCKING that you have the time to comment on this blog with all the people that must be e-mailing you day in and day out asking for your opinion.
for what it's worth, i think she looks great.
7some people could get ionide poisoning from that. i know i can eat as much noir as i want as i have high tolerance for ionide, but some people have really low and it does have a warning on the packaging not to eat too much of it.
8ick, too much iodine. i bet that could make anyone break out
9I ate them for snack when I was in college. Hmm. Might try making sushi now.
10It makes her skin look good? Since when does iodine make your skin look good? My Derm said to stay away from it.
11It's funny I was just thinking of seaweed today.
12Anonymous - Alicia S didn't say her skin looked good because of iodine, Fit followed up her claims by adding what additional minerals nori has in it. Hope that clarifies it for you.
13Mhmm, I had a cucumber roll for dinner tonight
Love Nori!
14Sounds yummy! :feed me: I had some a long time ago but am willing to experiment some more. The only time I had iodine poisoning was one time when I was on the coast & ate so much seafood that I was up sick all night. I had seafood for breakfast, lunch, & dinner the day before. Take this advice & DON'T do that! hehehe I don't think a person would enough nori to get iodine poisoning, but then again some people will try too much of anything ( I did with seafood!).
15I wouldnt eat like her, shes fat.
16I certainly wouldn't say that Alicia is fat, but I've never found her to be a compelling spokeswoman for a vegan diet. Her hair and complexion always looks very gray and dull to me and she isn't terribly fit. That's not to say that the diet isn't really healthy, but at least in her case, those health benefits don't seem to have extended to her appearance.
17I would be interested in reading this book. I'm not a vegetarian but since I've been living in the uk I've pretty much stopped eating meat (good meat is a luxury here) so I've been looking for more vegetable-based recipes.
18Anonymous commenter, please don't come here and throw flames. I understand that you are passionate about the vegan lifestyle, but that gives you no excuse to be so rude.
19"It makes your skin look amazing." So why her skin looks so bad?
20I agree with Anonymous number 3. She looks horrible. She doesn't look so bad here, but you can find a lot of bad pics. She REALLY doesn't look so good.
And I don't think people should eat meat (I am a vegetarian).
Anonymous # 19 (Non ignorant, glowing vegan), I agree with you when you say: "when the truth is told, it's always taken as rude." That's why you think those comments are rude, right? You can't face the truth!
After reading the comments on this blog I'm a little frightened... do I have common interests with you people? If I don't already, before I do I'm gonna stop reading this blog ! Eck
21Well I am no VEGAN but I certainly do exactly what she does with NORI! I love wrapping it around ANYTHING and everything!!!
