Do you avoid nuts because they're high in fat? Remember, it's the saturated fat you need to worry about, and most nuts including peanuts, cashews, walnuts, and almonds have less than three grams per one ounce serving of this bad fat. The good news is that nuts are high in healthy fats your body needs — unsaturated fats. Some studies have shown that this type of fat can actually lower LDL (bad) cholesterol and maintain HDL (good) cholesterol. Plus nuts are also cholesterol-free. When choosing nuts, go for the ones that are raw rather than oil-roasted, since those contain slightly less fat and calories. Remember, even though they are full of healthy fats, you still want to watch your portions. A handful of nuts is generally a one ounce serving.

GUESS
What about dry roasted nuts? Those have no added oils, but are roasted to bring out that nutty taste.
1Sorry, FitSugar, but you should NEVER eat raw nuts!!! Is the risk of salmonella worth the extra traces of fat you'd get from roasting them? Nuts are the healthiest snack you can eat, but please put food safety first when it comes to ANYTHING you put in your mouth.
2Just to respond to the above poster: Salmonella is not a huge concern in nuts unless if the FDA recognizes a threat. Nuts are not like raw eggs, where the chance of getting salmonella from eating it raw are much higher. However, with nuts, it it usually perfectly safe to enjoy some raw nuts as a healthy snack.
3Raw almonds are happy pills
4Raw almonds are the best snack! They help keep you healthy and satisfied! yay for almonds! (ps I have never heard of getting salmonella from raw nuts? I have been eating them for 28 years)
5Ever since I've started eating nuts every day, my cholesterol levels have gotten really good. My LDL is 90 and my HDL is 75 and my triglycerides are only 53. So yeah, I LOVE nuts!!! They're so tasty. I eat the dry roasted ones though...they taste a lot better to me. You can toast them yourself...just put them on a pan and stick them in the oven for a few minutes.
6I just are my daily dose of nine raw almonds!
