If you're continuing your yoga practice into the warm Summer days, you may be thinking you need to purchase some shorts since the temperature has risen. Before you make the splurge, I'm here to tell you to save your money. I know it's tempting to ditch your pants since yoga can make you so hot and sweaty, but you actually want to wear pants instead of shorts.

Why? The extra material won't make you feel much hotter, but what it will do is absorb all your sweat, so your mat doesn't get dangerously slick. Plus, the material on your legs will allow you to do poses like Hummingbird and Crow more easily, since skin-on-skin contact is so slippery. You can also wipe your sweaty forehead on your pants every time you come into a forward bend. For all these reasons, opt for pants. You'll be thankful that you did.

Nearly everyone in my Hot Yoga classes wear lululemon shorts, even in classes of 50+!
1yeah, I can't imagine NOT wearing shorts in bikram...I tried once and pretty much died!
2Agreeed - lululemon or shakti side string shorts are the way to go for bikram! Even when I wear a full lenght tank top, as opposed to a sports bra/cropped top, I can tell a huge difference.
3I totally agree with the article. I wore shorts to yoga this morning and my legs were sliding off my arms when trying to do crow! Definitely back in full length bottoms next time.
4I'm in an ashtanga class and I got SO hot last week, it was almost unbearable. But then we were so sweaty our feet were sliding off the mats by the end of the class, so I definitely see the point in not wearing shorts! Plus, I wouldn't like feeling like my whole body is sticking to the mat when I have to lie down for a posture.
5I was just in a Dick's Sporting Goods and they have pulled together this great new Yoga zone with cool tops and bottoms. Worth checking out!
6I actually find skin-on-skin contact ALWAYS easier than skin on material, even when I'm sweaty.
Plus, I just hate the sweat spot I get on my lower back (OK OK ass crack) when it's hot. I get so self conscious it's hard to concentrate.
7i never knew that it wuld absorb the swear...i should get myself a yoga pants
