Spring means spending more time outdoors, and how easily you burn depends on your skin type. Check out the chart below from Mayo Clinic to see where your skin falls.

The sun's UVA and UVB rays can penetrate and damage all skin types, increasing a person's risk for skin cancer. Even people with types 5 or 6 are at risk, and often develop skin cancer on the palms, fingers, or other lightly pigmented areas of their bodies. So tell me . . .
| Skin Type | Skin color | Reaction to sun exposure |
| Type 1 | Pale white skin | Always burns, never tans |
| Type 2 | White skin | Burns easily, tans minimally |
| Type 3 | White skin | Burns minimally, tans slowly |
| Type 4 | Light brown or olive skin | Burns minimally, tans easily |
| Type 5 | Brown skin | Rarely burns, tans easily and darkly |
| Type 6 | Dark brown or black skin | Rarely burns, always tans |

White as can be - "porcelain" - I've come to embrace it. It's what makes me me!
1White with yellowish undertone and nice golden colour when tanned.
2i love me some SPF 50
3Type Tres for me!
4I am Type 1. Sunscreen is my best friend.
5I have olive skin, and normally I'd say I never burn, but this weekend I got my first 'real' sunburn.. (i usually only get like a little pink on my nose and shoulders) my sternum an the area above by belly button, but below my chest... BRIGHT RED..... very weird area. only took a day to get rid of because I have an aloe plant... and noxema is the BEST!!! but I couldn't sleep at all Saturday night because I'm a stomach sleeper, so that really made me angry. I now feel for all you palekins!
6I said type 3 but I could be type 2. :S
7i'm type 3 i think - i have pale white skin but i do tan pretty decently.
8I put type 4, but I am in between a type 4 and a type 5. I love my spf 50 as well. I never believed in going over 30, but have worked in some extreme outdoor conditions where even a large hat didn't help as the sun reflected off the ground and got my face. Titanium dioxide is my friend in those situations.
9I never had a sunburn in my entire life - and I never had a tan (a natural one, at least) either. My skin is whiter than a white wall... I keep on using children sunscreen and stay out of the sun since I really love my cellar tan.
10I'd say between a 3 and 4.
11im like between type two and three coz i burn pretty easily, but i also tan pretty well.
12between 2 and 3 here. I tan, not a lot, but i also use a lot of sunscreen, so I don't tan as much as i used to. I'm frighteningly white in the winter though...
13i do burn pretty easily. 10 mins in the sun and I combust into flames, though my skin isn't that white. i wear as much sunblock as i can when outdoors and get a minimal tan. when i did water polo and swam, i had really tanned skin, and white skin in the shape of a competetive swim suit. not fun.
14I've never had a tan in my life that didn't come from a can or a salon. I go straight from pale white to bright red and then back. There is no in between.
15I'm between a type 2 and 3. But then again, I DO live in Texas. If I lived in the Northern states, I'd probably be closer to Type 1 or 2 than 2 or 3.
16I think somewhere in between 2 and 3.
17i am a type 4 thoroughly, i get pink sometimes after being in the sun for a while, but usually tan pretty easily.
18Ha the choices are to stereotypically limited - I'm a type 5 however I burn instantly when in the sun - I have never tried to tan because it seems redundant and well stupid.
To avoid burning on a daily basis and to not trigger my photoallergic dermatitis I wear SPF 60 sun block 365 days a year.
19I'm type 1 for sure. I burn in about 10 minutes in strong sunlight in the summer and after it peels, I go right back to being white again. I try to avoid sunburns at all costs, so I'm all about the SPF 50+. Skin cancer runs in my family, so I have to be really careful. My sister somehow lucked out and has type 4 skin. She never burns and it is so not fair.
20Type 3. Maybe 2, idk. I tan if I lay out where it's hot/warm, or in a tanning bed (
) but
where I live we do have nice summers... they're just not hot enough to really get a good tan though.
But I wish I was type 4. During the winter I'm really pale
21lol that was meant to be =X not
oh well.
22Between 3 and 4. I'm actually lookin' pretty golden now!
23I put 3, but i think im between 3 and 4....except im SUPER PALE in winter, and tan pretty well in summer. I'm never super dark, but i get a a nice glow. (and some nice blonde streaks
)
24i don't try to tan though, im scared of teh cancerz.
I am a TYPE 2...
25Type 2 or 3, I don't know. I am pretty pale, but I don't think I've ever got a sunburn. And I tan slowly, so maybe I am a type 3. But you wouldn't have guessed by looking at me =P
262
love spf. and hate that most moisturizers with built in spf ago pretty much up to
15. really? that's like almost no protection.
27Between 4 and 5, I've only been slightly burnt once or twice and I tan really easily
28I'm a number 1 but I can stand a little time in the sun without sun screen, even though I won't because that's insanity.
29Type 5. I have never burned and I now use sunscreen because of cancer fears. I don't tan too darkly though, I love my warm brown color
30Type 1- I have never tanned, and after 2 or 3 bad sunburns as a kid, I always wear sunscreen. In the summer, my freckles darken up a bit though.
