You've just finished cooking a wonderful meal — grilled sesame chicken, roasted asparagus with sliced almonds, and mashed sweet potatoes and carrots. Before you sit down to eat, dish out an appropriate portion of each food for each person then immediately put the rest of the leftovers into BPA-free plastic storage containers, or ones made out of glass. Leaving leftovers on the counter or on your kitchen table while you eat is way too tempting. Popping them directly into the freezer can deter you from polishing off a second dinner soon after finishing your first.

but shouldn't you let the food cool before freezing?
1BushraUK- I agree. I have always been told to let the food cool down before putting it in any container in fridge or freezer. I don't know why but my mother said something about bacteria growth?
2Since I'm totally guilty of eating "leftovers" the same day this is a great tip,
3Question: How long should food cool before putting it away??
I've also heard the rule about letting food cool down, but I didn't know it was for food safety. I thought it was for energy savings, because putting a hot dish in the freezer would make your freezer work harder to stay cold.
4Another reason to let food cool is because hot covered food forms condensation which can moisten your food, so make sure you wipe off your cover before you put your food in the freezer.
5I did this tonight!! I'll basically portion out fridge/freezer portions, and then put the lids underneath the container, and by the time I'm done eating, the food will be cooled enough to put in the fridge.
6Amazing tip! Why did I never think of that before?! I'm so guilty of "cooking healthy" and then eating 3 portions of what I cooked because I liked it.
I agree with Bushra about letting the food cool before putting it in the fridge or freezer, but I feel even putting it in a tupperware and leaving it to cool on the counter would prevent me from having another serving.
7i don't have that much time to cook. so i cook 3-4 dishes and eat them for 3-4 days.
8everything ends up in the fridge and it's perfect
