A good percentage of the population suffers from seasonal allergies, and springtime can be the worst with all the new plants budding. To find relief, I'm a regular neti pot user and am always telling people to use one too. The warm salt water helps flush pollen, dust, and mold spores out of my nose, which helps prevent symptoms. When dealing with pain from sinus congestion, I also suggest people use a therapeutic warming pillow. The heat helps loosen up mucus, which helps alleviate sinus pressure.

If you too deal with seasonal allergy symptoms, I'm sure you have some great remedies, so share them in the comment section below.

I take an antihistamine at night.
11. Shower in the evening to wash away allergens (wind-blown pollen, e.g.). Wash hands scrupulously -- same goes for face.
22. Drink lots of water. It seems to help my symptoms.
3. Take non-drowsy antihistamine during day and a "drowsy" one at night. I don't take them every day, though.
4. Wash bedding and towels as eco-friendly as much as possible.
5. Close windows.
6. Use neti pot at night and in morning.
7. Try yoga to de-stress and deep breathe.
8. Keep track of pollen and allergy trends online at pollen.com. If possible, schedule outdoor activities around the pollen count. Stay inside when it's not so friendly outside.
9. Use acupressure techniques for your sinuses and face. I use the following site: chinese-holistic-health-exercises.com/free-face-exercises.html
10. Keep a positive attitude, even when you feel as though your head might explode. My mantra is "this too shall pass"!
I have always used a neti pot with some relief but after someone recommended I use Alkalol in my neti pot, I am a new woman! Its a natural solution with herbs like eucalyptus and menthol. Amazing! I also use a cold mist humidifier at night. It has an air purifier in it so that helps too. I've probably tried every possible remedy in the book (also currently trying the local honey solution...)
3I use my neti pot at least once a day, twice if needed, and try to drink a lot of water.
4im a firm believer in claritin/alavert/loratidine.
5Acupuncture has really kept my seasonal allergies at bay. I cannot take medication as I tend to get every side effect which is usually worse than the allergies. If it wasn't for acupuncture I'd be miserable. I live near a lot of swampy areas in Charleston and the mold is terrible - nearly everybody has some kind of allergy symptom.
6I change my clothes when I get home from work/class, take an extra shower at night where I clear my sinuses. I used to take allergy meds, but year after year my allergies have been descending in severity--hopefully toward eventual immunity. Hopefully one day I can visit California's vernal pools without wondering worriedly if I under-dosed myself on Claritin.
7Benadryl - that's the only thing in pill form that works for me. It makes me sleepy but it works.
Claritin and all the other OTC meds don't do a thing for me.
I still haven't tried the Neti pot or anything like that. I really should.
8ahhh neti pots are creepy!
9Neti Pot
10I use the neti pot, drink tons of water, keep my hands washed and make sure to recirculate internal air when I'm in the car.
11I feel like I'd pour snot all over my face if I used one of those..... I take Claritin, and Benadryl at night, and keep really good eye drops with me at all times, and I wash my pillow cases and also try and cut back on the eyeliner -- less crap in my eyes when they're prone to pollen irritation the better
12generic zyrtec and I'm good
13This sounds crazy, but cutting animal products out of your diet can make season allergies go away. One of my relatives went on a vegan diet and said her horrible allergies went away. I didn't really believe her but I went vegan and so did a couple of friends of mine. Just last week my friend said that her husband has suffered from horrible seasonal allergies every single year that she has known him and this year -- nothing. It's pretty darn amazing.
14I use the neti pot every morning and if I've been outside a lot during that day, I try to use in the evening as well. I keep the windows closed both in my house and in my car, which is hard for me because I love fresh air, but it's really important to keep the pollen out. I also drink peppermint tea. It helps with congestion.
15my eyes have been killing me all week - taking turns, actually...first it was the left and now the right...i couldn't get a dr appt until this coming week...home remedies would be much appreciated!
16Anonymous... I have been a vegan for almost 10 years now and I have seasonal allergies. And I mean total vegan - no animal products of any kind. I never had them before but now that I live near the swamp I do.
17Oh and I use eyedrops also. Forgot about those! lol
18I drink Traditional Medicinals Breathe Easy tea. It has been clinically proven to improve sinus health, so I know that it truly does work. Also, it is 100% organic and fair trade, so I feel good about putting it into my body. Check it out at traditionalmedicinals.com!
