Cardio is important for strengthening your heart, lungs, and muscles, but you don't need to go full force every time you work out. Whether you enjoy running, biking, swimming, dancing, or some other type of cardio, dedicate one day a week to an easy day. I don't mean rest completely and do nothing physical, just do a lighter version of your regular cardio workout. Doing only tempo runs or sprint intervals can be really hard on your joints. Slowing down allows your body time to adapt to the demands you place on it with your tougher workouts. I find Mondays a perfect day to put this idea into practice, how about you?

Mondays are usually my light days, too. I'll just take a leisurely walk or do a little yoga. It seems to put my mind in a good place for the rest of the work week.
1I like this idea a lot. I live in New York City and am trying to simply walk more now that the weather is better
2Workouts should vary. For example, today I did an easy 45 on my bike (on the trainer). Tomorrow will be an easy 8 miler run in the morning and a long, endurance swim (3150M in the afternoon). Wednesday is a strength workout on the bike (high gear, low cadence). etc. Workouts can - and should! - be easy, hard, endurance based, speed based, recovery.

4Monday is always my hardest day! I usually do easier workouts on wednesday and sunday, though.
5Mondays are my easy day too, since I like to do a lot of active stuff on the weekends.
