When the work week is over, it's human nature to want to celebrate and let loose. For some that means going out for drinks Friday night, then hitting your favorite restaurant for a four-course meal. Or maybe Saturday you enjoy an elaborate brunch at a nearby cafe, and go to a friend's house for cocktails and dessert later that evening. Or perhaps Sunday morning you may delve into a deluxe pancake breakfast in bed. For some letting loose is all about enjoying food so tell me . . .

OMG - that is so weird - It was my birthday this Wensday so for once we had dessert (we only have dessert on special occasions) and we had pancakes with vanilla ice cream and strawberries! It didn't look as delicious as the picture, but boy it was good!
1Every Sunday, I make a big family dinner with dessert. We don't usually eat dessert otherwise unless it's someone's birthday cake. My kids are learning that dessert is "sometimes food" and it's OK to finish a meal and not have something sweet every day. I also use Sunday night dinners to try fancy new recipes that I otherwise wouldn't make during the week.
2I do splurge sometimes, but not necessarily on weekends. just when there's something to celebrate.
3I used to splurge a day on weekends but then I realized that sometimes it took me a couple of days during the week to get back on track. I go overboard a little one day on the weekend now but not the way I used to.
4I've been splurging big times on the weekend--now that bathing suit season is upon us, I need to stop this nasty little habit!
5I don't usually splurge on weekends...I'd much rather just indulge myself by letting myself have a small treat each day. I find that keeps me on track better for some reason. If I have a splurge day, I get in sort of an "all or nothing" mindset and I feel like a giant blob the rest of the day.
6I usually do (then again, if I want to splurge whenever, I'd probably do it if I feel super deprived or something which I'm not) , but Not This weekend because of my hubby's birthday last Wednesday and my dad's, we've been just eating out during dinner time.
7I always splurge on Sunday morning for breakfast! I eat well the rest of the day and all week, but Sunday mornings it's always bacon, eggs, fried potatoes, and toast! YUM!
8If I grocery shop on Friday nights on the way home from work, sometimes I will indulge in some special things for the weekend. Doesn't necessarily have to be "bad for you" foods, sometimes just more gourmet like some great wines, cheeses, meats, etc. that I would normally not splurge on during the week.
9omg those crepes look amazing....
10this weekend was the worst for me since it was my birthday. Back to normal tomorrow!!
11I do treat myself on the weekends, but it's a completely different sort of treat than I would have had before I overhauled my diet (and lost 25 kilograms in the process). On Friday night, instead of veggies and lean protein, I have a toasted cheese sandwich with a tomato and lentil soup for dinner; on Saturday I have homemade apple, blueberry and raspberry cinnamon breadd and fruit leather for dessert. Admittedly the sandwich is made without butter, only enough cheese to fill the sandwich, and the bread is 100% wholegrain and contains no refined sugars.
I know. I'm wild.
12No, I'm not into splurging (specifically, eating junk food). To me, my healthy food taste more delicious than junk food. It just does.
In fact, just a while ago, my husband teased me about my food. I was eating plain (yummy) oatmeal, and he was having a freshly baked pizza. He told me that he wouldn't want to trade food with me, in which I replied,"Neither would I."
13No, if I splurge it is only if I really want something. If I want chocolate or ice cream or whatever, I'll have it but I don't pig out. I don't think you have to strictly portion control everything you eat down to a science, but I don't think it's OK to get in the habit of it. Going out for dinner or drinks is fine, and a pancake breakfast occasionally, but not every day or every weekend (unless they are maybe buckwheat pancakes, not buttermilk...lol).
I am against "cheat days" too though.
14Yeah, I splurge on the weekend - althought I wish I wouldnt! It's frustrating. I love healthy food and dont deprive myself at all during the week, if I want chocolate, I'll have chocolate (I dont believe in diets, but I just try to stay active and eat balanced portions of foods I love)...but for some reason, the weekend rolls around and suddently with all the social events and parties going on, I'm surrounded by all these junky foods: tons of potato chips, margaritas, wings, and virtually nothing healthy...I am not just gong to NOT EAT or NOT go to the party, I try to keep it in check, but at the end of the day I've still consumed more than I would normally resulting in a "splurge". Not sure what to do about that - b/c I'm social and the social events like superbowl parties, etc aren't exactly condusive to balanced eating!
What do you guys do in those situations? It's easer to be balanced and healthy if you are in control (ie, only eating at home of throwing the party yourself) but it's hard when youre not sure what will be served (for instance, at a party this weekend, there was no water, only high caloric beer, not a vegetable or hummus in sight! ). It's also hard to be mindful of how much youre shoveling in your mouth if you are busy socializing, throw in the fact that alcohol makes you less aware of what you are doing ,and YIKES!...just one of those things I'm still trying to navigate my way through
I'm lucky in that I'm young and active so these splurges don't really do anything to me size wise, but I know eventually it will catch up with me! lol
15Yes I splurge one day of the weekend.
16i have a bad habit of pizza and beer on friday nights. its oh so bad... but oooooh so good
17sometimes. it depends on where i am and what i'm doing. if i'm at my mom's house then i'll have maybe a scoop of ice cream or something since i don't keep it in my house.
18So far, I haven't had a very hard time trying not to splurge. I'm afraid if I splurge at this early time in my weight loss efforts, I may sabotage myself since I don't have a lot of willpower yet. For something sweet, fruit is usually enough for me. I haven't had hardly any cravings so far, and I'm pretty proud of myself for that. I've been trying to keep more of a mental attitude towards food since I used to eat out of sheer boredom.
