It was a dramatic finish for the women running the Boston Marathon today, and the official results are in. Crossing the finish line first was Kenyan runner Salina Kosgei, with a time of 2:32:16. Congratulations to the champ! Just one second behind Kosgei
was Dire Tune of Ethiopia, who collapsed soon after finishing the race and had to be carried out on a stretcher. I sincerely hope she is OK; stay tuned for updates.
Meanwhile, third place went to one of my favorite runners, Kara Goucher, who had a time of 2:32:25. She was one of just two American women to finish in the top 10. Pretty amazing considering the Olympic middle-distance runner just started marathoning last Fall!

American Ryan Hall came in third as well, with a time of 2:09:40. He was a little over a minute behind Deriba Merga of Ethiopia (2:08:42) who won the marathon. Second place winner is Kenyan Daniel Rono with a time of 2:09:32. The prize money for men and women is the same and the winner takes home $150,000, while second place wins $75,000, and the third place purse is $40,000.
Are you watching (or running) any marathons this year? . . . Oh, I'm sorry, can you repeat that? I missed your answer because I was too busy coveting these runners' quadriceps.

1I guess you could call it a second marathon --- the run portion of Ironman Cozumel is 26.2 miles -- I'll be running... erm... walking... erm, shuffling through

Those ladies are amazing! If you've ever run a marathon, you know how fast that is! I'm hoping to run the NYC marathon in November, my fourth.
4I felt sad for Kara Goucher after watching an interview where she was crying because she wanted to win so badly. I expect good things are yet to come from her though.
5What an amazing finish. I am very proud of Kara. She did great. I look forward to seeing her fulfill her distance goals.
6Her time is amazing!
7I can't even run a mile @ that pace.
I am going for the BigSur Marathon this weekend - just doing a relay with my coworkers. I am running the 3rd leg, but plan to stay with them for the 4th and 5th leg. It will be 17 miles for me.
Off the subject, but if you haven't read Running With the Buffaloes by Chris Lear, largely about Kara's husband Adam Goucher, read it!
8i was training for the los angeles marathon but got derailed with the most massive shin splints, and had to completely rehab my work-out. i've gotten into crosstraining a lot more, and hopefully i can run new york next year - i know it's a long ways off but keeping something looming in the future really helps!
9IT was Awesome! My friends and I were cheering at the 1 mile left marker, as soon as the runners hit Kenmore. It was so empowering! We were so hoarse after cheering for two hours.
10Wow that is amazing! I can finish a half-marathon in that time! Geez mad respect for these ladies!
11i was there cheering them on, these people clearly worked hard for this; just spectacular to watch. congrats to everyone that ran and next year, wear your name so i can give you a more personal encouragement
12laellavita, I've been training for the LA marathon too! My first time out, I tore a groin muscle (ugh, I couldn't work out for 3 months!) but now I'm back on track. The delay of the race date actually allowed me to make it in this year. It's my first marathon, and I'm nervous, but excited. I just want to be in the early 4:00 ish, and I'll be happy. These pros are amazing!
13Kara Rocks! She is awesome and it's just a matter of time before she wins one!!
