There never seems to be enough time in 24 hours to accomplish everything and still get a good night's sleep, and the feeling is only accentuated when kids are in the picture. Mom-of-two Jennifer Garner is all too familiar with time constraints and has recently started working out again after giving birth to her baby, Seraphina Rose, a few months ago.
Jennifer works out under the guidance of her trainer Valerie Waters, who offers advice to new moms that could work for anyone without much time in their schedule for fitness. She says to focus primarily on building strength if you're squeezing in workouts and explained, "If you can only exercise 20 minutes three times a week, you should be strength training — squats, push-ups, lunges, planks. You'll burn the same amount of calories [as cardio] but you'll also add lean muscle, which speeds up your metabolism."
A great thing about her advice is that it leaves little room for excuses — all of the exercises she mentioned can be done anywhere, anytime, with no equipment necessary.

This is good to know. Sometimes I'm really not feeling the cardio machines at the gym. Typically if I start to get bored I'll just do an extra long weights session to compensate for the lack of cardio.

1That's a useful advice, thanks!
2Great tips. So refreshing to hear someone be honest and say "sometimes you only have 20 minutes." Love it.
3I hope Jen will find more time for herself as a woman. She is great
4i've began to learn that running at the gym for 30 minutes when i really am rushed is better than not going at all and sitting at home for 30 minutes eating! this is good advice!
5If you only have 20 minutes, try Jilian Michael's "30 Day Shred". It has 3 20-minute workouts that will kick your butt! I love it for days when I don't have very much time or when an hour workout seems too taxing.
6Thanks for the advice!
7Great advice. I know it is harder for me to think of what exactly to do exercise wise when I have a limited amount of time. Its better to just do something (anything) than nothing!
8That's good advice but I hope she doesn't try to lose weight too quickly or anything like that.
9Cool. When I'm in a hurry, I typically do about 10 minutes of something like jumping rope to get my heart rate up and then 20 minutes of pushups, lunges, plyos, and planks to rev up my muscles. Good to know that even celebs sometimes don't have 2 hours to work out either.
10MY LEFT FOOT! You KNOW she's working out hard for an hour or more with a trainer and doing LOADS of cardio. Also, having a strict diet.
11Strength training is so important for your overall health especially as you get older. There really are no excuses anymore becuase anyone with or without kids can squeeze workouts in. The biggest hurdle is actually getting started and forming a habit.
Cheers!
12this is great.
13sometimes i just don't feel like sweating too much
