I am firm believer in fighting my seasonal allergies with a neti pot. Rinsing with it the daily, which once seemed super hippie to me, flushes the irritating pollen away. Formally known as "nasal irrigation," neti pots have become an increasingly popular alternative for coping with seasonal allergies. That is because the neti pot works.
Unlike decongestants, which can lead to "rebound" congestion, using a neti pot does not irritate the nasal passages or dry them out. Plus, decongestants lead to dryness all over and disrupt the natural lubrication system of your lady business. A couple of studies found using a saline solution for nasal irrigation not only decreased allergy symptoms but also decreased the need for steroid nasal sprays. Plus, neti pots are inexpensive when compared to prescription nasal sprays. Three cheers for the neti pot! What I want to know now is, do you neti?

I love my neti pot! My acupuncturist actually recommended I put this solution in called Alkalol (you can find it at most drug stores and health stores). It has a blend of herbal decongestants in it like eucalyptus and it clears my sinuses like no other! Amazing stuff. I highly recommend it if you get bad allergies like me.
1I love my neti pot, makes pranayama breathing much more pleasant.
2I use a neilmed sinus rinse bottle. Easier to squeeze than tilt a pot.
I love it and hate it at the same time. It absolutely helps, but I still find it to be a little gross for me.
One more interesting thing that my mother (who rinses too) noticed, during cold season it helped us fight off colds. From what I understand a cold virus lives in your nasal passages for about 48 hours before it affects you. If you're rinsing you can rinse the virus away. I'm usually the most sickly person because of my severe allergies and asthma, but this winter I was only sick once.
It seems crazy, but it works!
3Yup! And my doctor even backed it up. I asked her timidly if real doctors believed in them and she confirmed just what Fit wrote. I'm a neti fan!
4I think I've said on this site at least 20 times that I LOVE my neti pot and it has truly changed my life! Yes, I'll go as far as to say that, because I suffer from severe allergy and sinusitis problems, which have been solved by using the neti pot. I also use it after long flights as my nose gets super dried out and I sneeze a lot. It's fantastic.
5i actually got a a free bottle of afrin pure sea nasal rinse through a marketing company to try and i'm still on the fence...i had been looking into getting a neti pot after my yoga teacher and some fellow students were raving, but then i had the chance to try the afrin...as twisted as this sounds, i was hoping to see something gross afterwards, but didn't! so, now i kind of feel like it doesn't really work...i've only tried it twice, so far, so i'll give it a few more chances...
6Every day! Sometimes twice a day during allergy season.
7I love my neti pot! My aunt suggested I try one when I told her I was suffering with sinus problems. It's helped tremendously! I can breathe better and I have less sinus pain and pressure.
8I confess I've never used it as a daily hygiene thing, but when I've used it for acute allergy symptoms (ie. sneezing my head off), it never seemed to help. I'd feel better for a few minutes then the symptoms would be back as bad as ever. A good old antihistiman lasts me the whole day.
9Gah! Antihistimine. Sorry.
10Love it and love that I got my friend to love it too!
11Morning and night!
12I have a neti pot and a squeeze bottle. I am a recent convert and hope that it helps with my frequent sinus infections due to allergies.
13I LOVE my neti-pot! I have pretty much year-round allergies, and I have used mine every day for about the last year. I read about it on here, and am SO thankful for it! My sinus headaches are much better and I can breathe a lot better!
14i have nettied. and i loved it. i breathed like i have never breathed before.
15Thanks, Fitsugar and fellow Sugars. Per everybody's input, I just ordered a neti pot. Recently, I've been suffering from allergies. This is new to me, as I've never had sinus allergies before. Hopefully this will help me because I don't want to take medication. I don't like medications, in general.
16There are much prettier versions (like the ceramic) than the ones shown in the pictures above. Cheesey plastic! eh!
17i remember when i first saw the infomercial for a neti pot and i thought 'oh no, never me!' but it truly has been the best relief for my allergy problems. everyone should have one!
18I was sick recently and the neti was my best buddy so I wasn't always blowing my nose and hurting my nasal passage. My husband has allergies so our porcelain neti pot has been a part of our home for a while.
19that thing just looks scary, and insanely phallic.... ew!
20I use a neti pot every day...it is still kinda gross to me, but it really works. Took me a while to get the hang of it, though.
21I'm going to have to try one of these. My allergies are very mild and only flair up to the extent that I need to take a OTC antihistamine a handful of times per year. But, they really knock me on my caboose when it comes to thinking clearly and drowsiness...even the ones that claim not to. Less medication is a good thing!
22Love it! I'm pregnant now and the neti pot is the best way to take care of my allergies without medication. I don't think I'll go back to medication ever!
23I have one and use it pretty frequently. They are great to help get rid of allergies and congestion that comes with colds and sinus infections! It provides that instant gratification!
24Where do you purchase these neti pots?
25I got a nice plastic neti in a local chain drugstore with lots of ph appropriate saline packets.
I don't use mine all the time, or even often, but when nothing else works, the neti pot will clear my sinuses with saline so that the oxygen in the air helps with healing. When I have the shakes, I use the plastic pot instead of the porcelain model.
It was hard to face doing it the first time. It's hard every time, but when the trade-off gets high, I'm awfully glad I've got mine!
