I like hearing other people's engagement stories, especially when they involve fitness. Lately, a lot of people I know have gotten engaged on outdoor hikes or camping trips. Of course, there's always the sports stadium Jumbotron method, and I have one friend who asked his wife to marry him on their way home from the gym!

So, have you heard any good stories of couples getting engaged while getting physical? Or perhaps it's you who got engaged that way. Share your stories in the comments.

My husband and I got engaged while we were on what I thought was a nature hike. We went out to dinner and my husband asked if I wanted to go to Picnic Point for a hike since it was a nice night. I said sure and we hiked out to a remote little spot by the lake and my husband tried to build a fire but we didn't have a lighter. So he told me we HAD to have a fire and we hiked back to the car and drove to a convenience store to get a lighter, hiked back to the spot and lit the fire. Then we cuddled for a little while and my husband started being super-mushy and talked about love being like a fire and stuff like that. Then he got down on one knee and pulled out a ring! We spent a little more time by the fire and then we hiked back to the car in the dark with a flashlight, lol. It turned out to be the best hike through the woods I've ever been on!
1AWW Spectra, that's so sweet!
2my husband and i were hiking in the sand dunes. we came to a open area. he built a litte sand pedestal for me to stand on..told me to close my eyes. when my eyes were shut he wrote i love you in the sand. when i opened them he was down on one knee proposing to me.
3My friend just recently got engaged at the Grand Canyon. They went on a hike there before and she was surprised when he wanted to take her for a hike after surprising her at her retreat in Northern Arizona.
4Well, my honey and i never had an official "will you marry moment", but we know that when we get hitched, it will be in the woods during a hike, preferably at a spot overlooking a beautiful landscape. i guess we'll know who our friends really are when we ask them to hike into the woods to see us get married! i'm pretty sure my family will go along well, but his mom does housework in heels, so i'm not sure how that will go over!
5My fiance and I decided to go on a camping trip to Crater Lake in Southern Oregon. We had just set up our camp site when we set off to hike around the rim of the Crater. We had walked a few miles when we saw a ledge that overlooked the whole lake. We sat down on the ledge and I noticed that he looked really agitated. Then he started talking about how he wanted to take trips like this with me for the rest of his life. As we got up to leave he kissed me, and as he was kissing me he pulled out the ring. I opened my eyes and he got down on one knee. The rest is history : )
6On a 2 week trip to Japan in 2007, we hiked Mt. Fuji the day before we left. It took 10 hours to hike up and hike down- the most intense workout of my life- my legs were sore for 10 days after! When we got to the top, we stopped and had some curry to warm up- it's pretty cold at the top! Before we started back down, we went to the crater to take pictures in front. We couldn't see much because of the clouds, but while my cousin was taking a photo my husband bent down on one knee and proposed. Almost instantly, the clouds lifted from around the crater and we could see in. It was magnificent! I about ran the whole way down Fuji, I was so excited
7This isn't my story, and isn't uncommon in climbing communities, but one of my friends was following her boyfriend up a multi-pitch climb. He had lead all the way up to the top, and when she got to the last piece of protection, a ring was hanging on the biner
I'd be so shaky
I'd be scared of dropping the ring!
8One of my friends proposed to her boyfriend during his hike up the Appalachian Trail. She flew up to meet him when he was maybe four or five months into the hike & proposed in front of a waterfall. I wish I could remember where it was exactly.
9Wow - all of these stories are so romantic!
10My friend Sarah got home from work one night and her boyfriend asked if she wanted to go surfing (they live in Hawaii). She reluctantly said yes since she was tired but knew the surfing conditions were fantastic at that time. So they go off and surf for awhile, and just as Sarah's about to swim to shore her boyfriend asks her to wait a second. He pulls out a floatie that was attached to his surfboard and untied a diamond ring and asked her to marry him, in the water, at sunset, in Hawaii. What a beautiful story and a unique proposal! They were married last November.
11My fiance woke me up and had packed a breakfast and wanted to go canoeing. We paddled out to a rock that was flat and heart shaped. he asked me to reach into the basket for the thermos and cups. My ring was in the coffee cup and he asked to spend the rest of his life with me.
12We got engaged during a hiking trip to the Rocky Mountains. We hiked in the morning, and in the late afternoon my hubby surprised me with a spa trip. After I was done at the spa, he picked me up, brought me back to the condo and popped the question.
13We were on summer vacation to visit our families last year (they are all in Texas, and we live in Chicago), and made plans before we left home to play golf early in the morning on Saturday, on my fiance's 30th birthday. His best man and best friend, had picked up the ring from my future in-law's house the night before, and had been in constant text message communication with my fiance throughout the morning.
After the last group before us had played through 18, the best man walked out to the green and put the ring into the hole. A small group of spectators was hanging around at the edge of the clubhouse watching us, since the manager of the course had been in on it since my fiance called a week before. I was so self-conscious that I didn’t even make my last putt, and as I started to walk back to the cart, he said, “hey, look… there’s something in the hole!” When I turned around to look, he was down on one knee with a gorgeous ring. He asked me to spend the rest of my life with him, and I eventually said yes (after I stood there for a while with my hands over my mouth in total shock), and the crowd applauded and honked the horns on their carts.
Afterwards, we drove over to his aunt's house where both our families and some friends were waiting with brunch and lots of smiles. We had been dating for 7 years, but I was completely surprised!!
14my fiance proposed to me at the end of a hike in the grand canyon! it was right as the sun was setting... magical
15My hubby took me on a sand dune camping trip to Oregon and down the coast of California. While we were in Oregon, we rode our quads to the beach at sunset and he "popped the question". Romantic!
16My husband proposed on a hike. It was the same trail we visited on our first real date. On that first hike we stopped to take a picture of a beautiful tree that we both had noticed and that we had hung in our apartment when we moved in together. So when we got to that same tree the day he proposed he dropped to one knee. It was perfect!
17Awww, psterling! That IS perfect!
18My hubby and I bought brand new snow shoes at the end of the season in 2006, knowing we'd have to wait until the following winter to use them. There wasn't enough snow until the following March. I was so excited when we got 2 feet of snow in two days, and we both had a day off to go snowshoeing (a favorite activity for both of us) We rolled out of bed and drove out to a park, where we were basically alone. We snowshoed for about an hour, and I couldn't figure out why he was acting so strangely. At one point, we stopped to rest and he asked me to get a photo of the landscape. While I was busy taking the picture, he was behind me, pulling out the ring. I was so terrified of dropping the ring into the deep snow!! But it all turned out just fine
19Aw, lots of cute engagement stories!!
20LOL some of these I'm like thinking "but...but...what if you lost the ring in the ocean, on the mountain, falls out of the picnic basket, in the snow!" There was this story on the news that this guy proposed to his wife on a bridge(I totally forgot but i think it was a famous bridge) and it fell down below!
21Awesome stories, I'm tearing up from Eleizabeth1981's post.
