Recently I posted about how the Fairmont Hotels have a workout gear kit available for your stay if you forget your clothes while traveling. Turns out, some of you were totally grossed out by the idea of wearing washed, but used clothing. This made me curious to see what the overall consensus is -- If you're in a pinch, would you wear workout clothes that have been previously worn by someone else, but were washed before you wore them?

Superdrug
Nuovegioie
O'Neill
I would, minus any underwear.
nope
I have borrowed my roomies sports bra before and I wouldn't have a problem with shirts or shorts. I would be leary of socks if I didn't know who wore them and underwear?- no way!
I wouldn't. The idea grosses me out. Even if it was my friend's clothes, I'd think twice. I don't know why!
they've been washed so what's the big deal?
How is it any different than sleeping in "used" sheets and using "used" towels to dry off after your shower? Besides this is the Fairmont after all, not Motel 6. I think people get grossed out because they know the person before them was sweating in the gear when if you think about it what people do in their hotel sheets should gross you out more than sweating it out at the gym!
I buy clothes in thrift shops - why not?
Honestly? No. I like the concept, but when push came to shove, I'd probably end up working out in my undies in the privacy of my room rather than wear loaner clothes.
if they've been properly laundered, why not?
...it's CLEAN.
i wouldnt..even though i know its clean, id ont know why it grosses me out haha
NEVER!
As long as they are clean, yes. I'm only wearing them for 30-45 minutes before taking them off and showering.
For me, it's more of a mental thing to be honest. Especially when it comes to undies. Econinsf, you bring up a great point...How many of us sleep in a hotel with clean but used bed sheets?
I wouldn't have a problem with it IF it belonged to someone I know. Otherwise it is a little skeevy.
I don't mind if it was a friend's or my roommates....
econinsf summed up my views exactly. As long as they're laundered I have no problem with it. Imagine not using the "sweat" towels provided at the gym or wearing the robes provided at the spa.
I travel a lot for work and it is actually nice to have this option. I hate checking luggage because the places I travel usually have the slowest baggage system ever--wasting an average of 2 hours of my day.
So, trying to get a 3-4 day business trip into a carry on usually gave me the excuse not to work out in the hotel gym more than once that trip (I hate working out twice in the same outfit that I own without laundering and fitting 4 days worth of workout gear plus work clothes is a no-go in a 22" rollaboard).
I am many things, but a germophobe is not one of them. As long as it's clean, I don't care if it's been worn before.
i'm with you on that one econinsf!
I would, if I had to in a pinch. I shower at the gym using towels that have been used but washed.
Um that would be a no for me. When it comes to the gym, I am very germ-a-phobic.
no way. workout the next day!
i don't know why, but i think it's gross. if i forgot my workout clothes, i would try to walk around a bit more and eat a little better to make sure i stay in shape. and if need be, i'd cut back on food and workout a little more when i returned.
they've been washed - of course! underwear, no. but socks, shorts & a top? any day! and if they're whites, even better - they probably have been bleached. i find this to be a great service, especially when you're a chronic over-packer like me.
i'd borrow a friends, but not a strangers. but yes, i hear what all you people in the comments saying about the hotel sheets! and you're right! but i guess it's just a mental block! oh well!
I would. I mean you sleep in hotels in sheets that other people have done God knows what in. I don't see the difference.
Good point about the used sheets and towels!
nope.
but only if I knew who had been wearing it - I quite often steal my boy's t-shirts that he's worked in (he's a plumber so gets very sweaty) or my mum's clothes even some of my friends but not sure how I would feel about borrowing clothes from the gym without knowing who had been wearing them - but I guess I would need to try it - would say no to underwear and socks
It depends on the place. I mean really. It's no big deal unless the place is untrustworthy.
i'd go out and buy some cheap stuff...
i get freaked out by other peoples body fluids... eh hem
