Hopefully, you spend enough time at the gym that you truly care about what comes with your membership. There's plenty to consider when selecting which facility is best for you, and Health has come up with a list of the 10 gyms that get their vote as America's healthiest. A panel of experts created the list by evaluating several factors, from cleanliness to classes.
You're the expert on your own gym, and while it's tough to find one that doesn't have some things we'd like to change, I'm wondering what you love most. What aspect of your gym has captured your fit little heart?

lots of equipment, great classes, clean
1Probably the variety of classes and instructors...and hot trainers
2I go to the YMCA. I enjoy the friendliness of the staff and instructor. I also made lots of friends from the club - we have regular dinner gathering for our swim team.
3Crunch is on that list? Health must not be visiting the SF locations
4I like that i can bring a friend with me for free; some days that's the only thing that can push me to get there. Even with that, though, i'll probably look into other gyms once my year at this one is up; i'm not a huge fan of them having tanning beds and pizza (wtf, how is that healthy?).
5My apartment has a small gym. I like I'm usually the only one there!
6I just joined Equinox...it's so clean and not too crowded, plus they have tons of classes. Also the price REALLY keeps me motivated...
7I like that it's inside the hospital where I work. It makes it much more convenient to squeeze in a quick lunchtime workout than if I had to leave the building.
8I loved my old gym … it was close and it was small enough that I was starting to get to know people. And one of the trainers was hot – we talked every so often and I got to know him enough that when I felt like blowing off a workout I’d think “Aaron would be so disappointed.”
But then my gym closed and our memberships were sold to a Gold’s that was farther away and super-impersonal. I won’t be renewing when my contract’s up; it’s fine but it’s not my old comfortable gym.
9I love LifeTime Fitness!
10The price -- I go to the University rec center and only pay $33/semester.
11No gym for me right now
12The staff know me by name and the variety of classes offered is great!
13I'm in the minority here. I recently canceled my gym membership. I found the environment disruptive, as I was constantly hit-on by men. I don't mean to sound arrogant -- I'm just being honest. The last straw was when a man waited OUTSIDE the gym to give me a freakin' note. Apparently, he was my secret admirer, and had been watching me (from afar) for months. It seemed innocent, but I didn't like it. Did he not notice the sparkling wedding set on my ring hand??
Going to the gym just wasn't worth it for me anymore, so I canceled my membership. These days, I get my exercise attending dance studios (which happen to be all women), jogging, biking, and weight training at home.
14It's in my house and I can use it anytime I want.
15I'm a member of Urban Active and I LOVE it! So much equipment, so many classes and super clean. I love that they have a pool, too. The people are super friendly and I've always worried about creepy men at the gym, but I've never had a problem there. I do not only workout at the gym (especially since it's warm out now) but I do love going 3-4 times per week.
16I love the variety of equipment. I *could* do a workout anywhere, but I prefer to be spoiled with choices at the gym.
17Everybody is friendly and really good about wiping the machines down, I don't usually have to wait very long for any of the machines, they keep it nice and cool.
18i just joined a new gym today! havent started yet but im happy its closer to my work and no waiting to use the machines, classes. my old gym was great too, lots of space and more equipment. just too far away
19I really like the variety! There are ellipticals (which I am basically a SLAVE TO)... then there are treadmills (which I am starting to enjoy more & use)... weird new kind of ellipticals (which I have yet to get the hang of... they're a bit weird)... bikes (which I don't use because well... I don't think they work so well in getting my heart rate up)... Revolving stairs (SUPER intense - did it for an HOUR yesterday and made me exhausted - I think about 30 minutes is good enough)... Weights of all types... Sauna... Steam Room... Pool.... Lots of Parking.... Nice Employees... All my favorite Energy drinks!
20lucille roberts - ONLY WOMAN!
there is nothing more i hate than feeling slef conscious while working out becuase guys are staring at me otherwise i dont like anything else about lucille
21The group fitness instructor, Amy, who teaches Yoga on the Move. It's the best yoga class there, in my opinion, and she's the best teacher! That and I love the gym "friends" I've made there! Oh yeah, and the fact that most of the treadmills face large windows... a nice feature considering we live where our winters can be longgg and COLD!
22It's on campus, it has fans, lots of magazines, all the machines I like...that's pretty much all I need...
If I had the money/space, I'd have my own home gym tho
23I LOVE my gym! It has free parking, plentiful towels, no wait in line for machines, a separate women-only workout area, free coffee and tea in the mornings, shampoo and deodorant and razors or anything you might have forgotten, sauna and jacuzzi, and the staff always greets me by name. Oh, and most importantly it's clean! The only bad part is the line it puts on my credit card bill every month.
24we used to go to lifetime but it was just toooooo far, so we joined a closer gym which isnt so great, but its very close. it gets the job done.
25Ocean front, nice equipment, TV for each cardio machine, mostly of the time, just for me, I just love to work out focus and relaxed.
26tv on every treadmill and eliptical with tons of stations and at least 6 different music video channels
27I go to Equinox and absolutely love it. From my personal trainer to the superfriendly front desk staff to the beautiful locker room - there is nothing I hate about it. It's worth every penny.
28i quit my gym. it was uni gym but quite nice for university gym - it belongs to University of London so maybe that's why... anyway, they didn't have saunas and i just adoooore sauna after work out. classes would be canceled all the time, but the machines were brand new. in the lockeroom there was awful draft that made me want to get out of there ASAP and i don't get how people can take showers in there. and the time for classes were inconveneint - i was still on the buss from uni when they would start. so i never got to go there and paying money for something i don't use was too much. it was a rolling contract so that was amazing. and it was 3min away from my flat
i just invested in HRM, new shoes, dumb bells, matts and other equipment and try and work out at home or go jogging around the neighbourhood.
29I love my Washington Sports Club! The classes are pretty good (not the best I've ever been to) but they just did a huge remodel. The locker room is amazing. It is so spa-like! And the gym itself has a lot of windows and is really bright. They just opened a hamam this week also! It's the 2nd gym in the country to have a hamam. Love it!
30I love my local YMCA. It's big enough that I rarely get that over-crowded feeling. It's clean, and the staff is friendly.
31Also, there's a great family atmosphere. I can bring my little sister and let her have fun while I work out.
They also have good classes, although I don't usually take them. My parents love going to yoga, and during the winter I go to spin there.
Pool + Gym, great classes, Beautiful view of the bay bridge while I workout, computer room.
32All of the hot people!
I don't hit on them in the gym though,
obviously. My boyfriend wouldn't be impressed with me if I did.
I was a member of the virgin active in another town and it was AMAZING. There was this spa area with steam, sauna and a huge jacuzzi. It was... incredible. Then I moved to a new town and a new virgin active and whilst the gym is AWESOME it isn't as AMAZING as the other one.
I like it though. I went on a guest pass to my friends gym today and it wasn't as great. It was small and crowded and urgh.
33My gym is no frills, cheap with old machines with very basic changing room but I like the atmosphere- no posers, just people who are serious about their workout instead of treating it as a social venue. They do offer a good variety of classes and the people are friendly enough. We say hello but we don't spend ages chit chatting and standing around.
34I love my gym- Natural Fitness! I get such a great vibe there, has excellent equipment and the personal trainers are awesome! It is no frills but gets the job done.
