Images of bacon cheeseburgers with Krispy Kreme buns have been seared into the minds of many hungry people, thanks to shocking photos from the delicately titled website This Is Why You're Fat. Blogger and cookbook author Jennifer McCann saw the opportunity to build an opposing site dedicated to images that inspire healthy living. Scroll through her creation This Is Why You're Thin to see a stream of beautiful salads, vegetable-based meals, and images of people exercising.
The site is less than two months old but already has an impressive collection of reader submissions that make me want to head to the farmers market right away. When you're figuring out what to have for your next meal and need some motivation to stay on track with your goals, take a gander at this site and you may become inclined to add more natural color to your plate. Check out some of the images below and tell me, do they inspire you to live healthfully?

Meh, I'm not too sure about that. To me, it just seems like kindof a self-righteous response to something that is clearly a joke.
I'm not against it, necessarily, but it just seems like it's filled with photos people submit because they feel like they're in a position to tell the world how well they eat. Even the title just reeks of self-importance and judgment.
I don't know why I had such a visceral reaction to it, and I don't expect others to, but it just doesn't sit well with me.
1I saw this for the first time yesterday. Its not as amusing as This is Why You're Fat.
2Thin =/= healthy.
I realize the title is just a riff on the other blog, similar to stuffpeoplelike.com, but that title leaves a bad taste.
I do like highlighting beautiful, healthy food, but that title is just awful
3I like it actually. I think it's inspiring - in fact, I'm craving a nice plate of grilled veggies right now!
Self-righteous title aside, I think it's doing its job - inspiring others to eat well and show that healthy food doesn't have to be boring. But as the poster above says, maybe the title should be "This is why you are healthy"...
4Well I just visited the blog and had my little "anti-vegan" rant on there. Totally not what I thought at all, thought that it would showcase all healthy foods. Instead it seems to pander to the vegans out there, furthering the stereotype that if you aren't vegan, you aren't healthy. That really grinds my gears.
5I eat food like that all the time, so the website wasn't really that inspiring to me for some reason. I also agree with the other posters that said it should be called "This is why you're healthy" instead of "This is why you're thin". You could be fat and still eat healthy foods the majority of the time and you could be thin and eat the crap that's on the "This is why you're fat" website.
6I do agree with Wanderlusting on the vegan thing. You can choose not to follow a vegan diet and still be healthy. I recently read a comment on another site to the effect of "he had a big belly. Guess he wasn't vegan," which is an attitude I've encountered a lot. There are many ways to be a healthy person.
7also found this randomly? http://www.thisiswhyyoureskinny.com/
8I sent this is why you're fat to my husband (we're both trying to eat healthier, working out more, etc...), and he said "this is gross. But I might have to try to make the Superdome" (one of the submissions). Not the point, husband!!!! Haha!
9OMG amandaaa, I just checked that out and it's so creepy! Any website that uses "cocaine wishes and asparagus dreams" as its tagline is just wrong.
10I like the website. However, I think the title "This is why you're thin" is very limited. Anorexics are thin, too, but they live unhealthily. I think the title should include "This is why you have energy, glowing skin, bright eyes, look youthful, and your body is a fully functional and beautiful machine." Woah, that's a mouthful! LOL Well, I think you know what I mean.
It's NOT just about being thin. Concentrate camp refugees are thin, too, and that's not what I'm striving for.
11uh, i just checked out the "this is why you're fat" website... and the photos were kind of making me want to vomit. especially the breakfast cake. ugh. i thought it may be hilarious, but it was actually just foul... especially when you think that someone actually went through the effort to make these things, and then eat them. hopefully the "this is why you're thin" site will make me feel better.
12okay, that's more like it. some of the photos are boring, but i loved the hiking one, and think the whack-a-mole recipe sounds pretty delish. i didn't read all of the other posts before commenting, but after glancing at them, i can see why people may have a problem with use of the word "thin", however, it's obviously in opposition to the word "fat" and it annoys me when things that are supposed to be positive are skewed. both thin and fat are arbitrary terms to some degree. a person with an high bmi may consider themselves to be thin, while someone extremely teensy may consider themselves to be giant. neither is healthy. (yes, yes, i know, our culture does have rediculous expectations of what thin is, but obviously there is resistance to this mentality. otherwise we wouldn't have an obesity epidemic.)
13these are truly lovely images of gorgeous, fresh food and they all look really appetizing. but i think a site should be made called "this is why you're not fat or thin" with both pictures of this kind of food and beautiful cupcakes... 'cause in the end... you're gonna die. might as well eat some chili cheese fries sometime if you like them.
14The food looks yummy.
