New York City is steadily becoming a healthier place to live for many reasons. Smoking was banned in most indoor work places and restaurants in 2003. Fast food chains and local restaurants ditched trans fat last year. They also have fruit and vegetable stands in both wealthy and low-income areas so folks can buy a healthy snack on the street instead of a hot dog. In 2007, eateries were also required to list calorie counts on their menu boards. To prevent the spread of HIV and other STIs, New York also gives away free condoms in public bathrooms. So it's no surprise that this hip city is doing more to keep its New Yorkers healthy by installing treadmills in subway stations. All that waiting around for the L Train can be time spent burning calories. It's a brilliant idea, really. To hear more about when you should start seeing them, read more.
April Fools! Ha! It is a great idea though, isn't it? I guess if you want to exercise while waiting for the subway, you can always jog in place. Since it's New York City, people won't think you're crazy!

i thought this sounded wrong. i live in NYC and to be honest, i can't imagine where they would put a treadmill in the subway, and how that would work. there are TOO many folks in the subway at any given time for it to even work.

2I thought the same thing ilanac. Aren't the subway cars crowded enough?
3oh not on the subway trains just in the subway. Never mind. I misunderstood. I still think it's silly though.
4oh and my comment #3 is the perfect example of why you don't post right after waking up. lol
5Totally saw through this one lol.
6Yea I was JUST about to write "this is an April Fool's joke"!
I did too much running to and from the subway catching trains while I was in NYC to need a treadmill.
7ROFL I completely forgot it was April 1. You got me hoook line and sinker with this one - obviously LOL.
8This one was pretty obvious.
9I thought you must be drugged and not reading something right ... and then I saw the end of the post.
NYC would never do that .... unless they wanted to see people getting killed running from the treadmill to the overcrowded trains ... or people fighting over the already crammed platforms.
10I'm getting good at figuring out which posts are Aprils fools jokes...
11Ha good joke!
12Ah you got me!LOL. I was really thing where are the going to put this thing?
13my first thought was "they raise the fares by 25% and THIS is where it's going??"
heh.
14and re: jogging in place on the platform: we'll still think you're crazy. we just won't make eye contact with you.

16Good one! I was kind of thinking "How on Earth would this even work? People would be waiting in line to use the treadmill while they're waiting for the train...that makes no sense!" LOL. If you want a good workout, ou could always try to catch the subway train as it's leaving and take off running after it!
17I was thinking the same thing Spectra. It sounded completely too ridiculous to be true but then again, I forgot it was April 1. Nice one Fit.
18I knew this was a joke right away. I mean, it is NY and people have places to go and would not just run in the subway. Also, there would be 20,000 comments about how the MTA is spending money on this and raising the fares. lol Nice try!
19Aw, I won't lie, I fell for it! lol
But can you imagine...besides not having enough space/machines... I can't imagine sitting next to the guy who just got done jogging three miles... :-\
20Especially in the summer, Tori. That would be the worst!
21This got me. I'm gullible!
22Good joke!
